Mr. Francis Daniel (Dan) Timpson: Obituary

Obituaries

Francis Daniel (Dan) Timpson, age 67, of Lawrenceville, GA, formerly of Murphy, NC, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the hospice facility in Lawrenceville, Gwinett County, Georgia, after an extended illness.

Dan was born in Tillamook, OR, the son of the late Cecil James Timpson, and Mary Jo O’Dell Timpson of Murphy. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nancy Lynn Timpson of Tillamook, and beloved younger sister, Lisa Timpson Fair, of Atlanta. He was a graduate of Murphy High School, Class of 1966.

Dan is survived by his wife, Sharon Timpson, of the home, a step-son, Brian Ridley, of the home and step-daughter, Deana of Texas. Also surviving are a brother, James (Jim) Timpson, of McDonough, GA; a sister, Patricia (Pat) Timpson Kephart, of Murphy; and special cousins, Darrell Timpson and Gary Timpson of Atlanta.

Dan recently retired from the Clayton County, GA School System, having lived and worked most of his life in and around Atlanta. He loved reading, playing golf, researching genealogy, watching sports on television, and spending time with family. Those who knew or worked with Dan will remember him as a stoic and selfless worker, intelligent and informed, who loved to delve into science, history, and politics, always surprising people with his knowledge and understanding of complex issues.

Dan was born with a birth injury which left him severely handicapped in his left arm and leg. A series of surgeries on his leg and arm at the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC, allowed him to eventually live a normal life, active and productive. For that reason, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Shriners Hospital 950 West Paris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605 (864) 271-3444.

Dan was a member of Hiawassee Baptist Church in Murphy, where he attended church as a child and was baptized.
