Mrs. Grace Derreberry: Obituary

Grace Derreberry, age 91, of Andrews, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at her residence. She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. Grace was a homemaker and a member of Valley River Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and crafts and babysat numerous children throughout the years. She was a loving mother and wife.

She was the daughter of the late Harrison Lee and Effie Daisy Adams Luther. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Lou Derreberry; a grandson, Clark Earwood; and a son-in-law, Ronald Hicks.

Surviving are her husband of seventy years, Carl Derreberry; three daughters, Linda K. Hedrick and husband, Jerry of Valdese, North Carolina, Vickie D. Hicks of Andrews, and Shirley J. Owenby and husband, Dick of Dillon, Montana; and a grandchild, David Owenby of Erie, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May, 17, 2016 in the Valley River Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Phillips officiating. The interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Danny Derreberry, Alvin Gunnels, Donald Ray Luther, Matthew Wood, Eddie Wood, Dewayne Payne, and Bruce Luther. Honorary pallbearers were Giles Adams, Boyd Luther, Jimmy Morgan, and Cecil Warren.

The family received friends from 12:00-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Valley River Baptist Church prior to the service.
