Jean Christy: Obituary

Jean Christy, age 111, of Andrews, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 in a Murphy care facility.  She was a native and lifetime resident of Andrews. She had graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1928.  She retired from Cherokee County Board of Education in 1970 after having taught many years as an English teacher at Andrews High School.

She was a lifetime member of Andrews United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for many years and active in many ways. She was the daughter of the the late Thomas Jefferson and Cora Bryson Christy. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers, and two nephews.

Surviving are three nephews, Robert H. Christy and wife, Peggy of Black Mountain, North Carolina, William P. Christy and wife, Marsha of Hayesville, and Thomas G. Christy and wife, Nell of Memphis, Tennessee; a niece, Christy P. Campbell of Andrews; two nephews’ wives, Joan Christy of Canton, North Carolina and Sara Ann Jordan of Wilmington, North Carolina; and many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Brown officiating. The interment will be in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Christy, Tom Christy, Chris Jordan, Bill Christy, Dick Christy, and Mark Christy.

The family will receive friends from 9-10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 4th at Andrews United Methodist Church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: Andrews United Methodist Church, PO Box 1310, Andrews, NC  28901.
