Mr. Raymond Edgar “Ed” Duckworth: Obituary

Raymond Edgar “Ed” Duckworth, age 83, of Marietta, GA and Hayesville, NC passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 in Marietta, GA.

He was a native of Clay County, NC and the son of the late James C. and Ilah V. Sanders Duckworth. Ed retired from Lockheed Aircraft. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed loved his family, his church, gardening, reading, and also enjoyed upholstering as a hobby.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five younger siblings; brother, James Jr. and sister, Della Glosson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bonita Rose Duckworth; one son, David Duckworth and wife Kristi of Kennesaw, GA; one daughter, Pam Maner and husband Marlon of Powder Springs, GA; two sisters, Audrey Anderson and husband Jack of Hayesville, NC and Ruth Evans and husband Tommy of Ashburn, GA; four grandchildren, Josh Maner and wife Jennifer, Jenna Cheek and husband Michael, Matt Duckworth and Ali Duckworth; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Maner, Garrett Maner and Griffin Cheek.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Rev. Aud Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors being conducted by the V.F.W. Post #10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96 and D.A.V. Chapter #73 and American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and V.F.W. Post #6812 Hayesville. Pallbearers will be Josh Maner, Michael Cheek, Matt Duckworth, Bill Glosson and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. The family will also have a gathering of friends Saturday, August 20th in Marietta, GA.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the County Line Methodist Church, 1183 County Line Road, Acworth, GA 30101.
