Beatrice Kitchens: Obituary

Beatrice Kitchens, affectionately known as “Aunt Bea”, age 98, of Hayesville, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. She was a native of McMinnville, Tennessee, but had lived most of her life in Clay County. She had worked for Clay County Schools in the cafeteria where all the children remember her as “The Ice Cream Lady”. She was a member of the Shooting Creek Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of Bible Missionary Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late D.F. and Lennie Gulley Boyd, and the wife of the late Claude Truett Kitchens, Sr., who died December 9, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry E. Kitchens; a daughter, Barbara Bradley; a sister, Nancy Hillis; and two brothers, Estelle and Roscoe Boyd.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Kitchens and husband, Gene Toole of Hayesville; a son, Claude Kitchens, Jr. and wife, Karen of Hayesville; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Kitchens of Powder Springs, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Madge Moss of Hayesville; four grandchildren, Derrick Kitchens and wife, Linda of Kennesaw, Georgia, Kimberly Kitchens of Charlotte, North Carolina, Chris Bradley and wife, Christina of Hayesville, and Tim Coffey and wife, Melanie of Clarkesville, Georgia; 10 great grandchildren, Connor, Carly, Sydney, MacKensie, Cameron, Brendon, Devon, Ethan, Elyssa, and Kayla; and one great great grandson, Kason. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Clark Moss and Rev. Doyce Waters officiating. The interment was in the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Derrick Kitchens, Chris Bradley, Tim Coffey, Gene Moss, Mike Gribble, and Jason Ledford.

The family received friends from 12:00-1:45 p.m. Monday at Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the service.
