Emma Jean Parker Voiles, age 79, of Broussard, Louisiana passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Born in a log cabin her father built in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains in Andrews, North Carolina, she was a devoted, loving, nurturing mother and wife. Emma Jean’s favorite hobby was reading historical novels and she especially loved fishing and camping with her friends and family.
As a military officer’s wife, she proudly supported all her husband’s needs to serve his country for twenty-four years as a Major and helicopter pilot in the United States National Guard.
She was the daughter of the late Murray Nay and Addie Deal Parker and was the wife of the late Dennis Wayne Voiles. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Vincent Neal, John Clifford, and Billy Joe Parker.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeannie Denise John and her husband, Joby of Lafayette, Louisiana; two sons, Jeffrey Thomas Voiles and his wife, Angie of Lafayette, Louisiana and Dale Alan Voiles of Hammond, Louisiana; one brother, Edward Richard Parker of Andrews, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Ami Michelle Peyton-Kleiner and husband, Stephen N. Insler, Catherine Denise Kleiner, Jacob Dennis John, Shelly Theresa Voiles, Leslie Ann White, and Amanda Claire Keen and husband, Derek Wayne; nine great grandchildren, Amelia Michelle Peyton-Kleiner, Summer Lynn Pavey, Aedan Arthur Pavey, Jordyn Ashley White, Nyla Rae White, Blaze Thomas White, Cidne Joseph Hawes, Ember Rose Keen, and Kevin Blake Voiles; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, North Carolina with Rev. Mary Brown officiating. The interment was in the Parker Family Cemetery, Andrews, North Carolina. Pallbearers were Mark, Jerry, and Richard Parker, Sidney May, Mitchell Arrowood, and Charles McCowan.
The family received friends from 3:00-4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.
