Gene Autry Gibby, Sr., age 78, of Andrews, NC passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County and the son of the late Eber and Mae McClure Gibby. Gene had been a truck driver for Parker and Reichman and an automobile mechanic. He had also worked for the US Forest Service in their Older American Program. Gene was a US Navy veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jo Franklin Gibby; brothers, Ken Gibby, Marvin Gibby, Cliff Gibby and baby brother, L.T. Gibby; and baby sister, Winnie Gibby.
He is survived by one son, Gene Gibby, Jr. and wife Beth of Blairsville, GA; four daughters, Shirley McCray and Audrey Stroud and husband Bruce, Janice Walker and husband Johnny all of Andrews and Virginia Gibbs and husband Hoot of Robbinsville; brothers, John Gibby and wife Lois of Andrews and James Gibby and wife Martha of Marble; two sisters, Virginia Hicks of Andrews and Janice Rathbone and husband Roy of Murphy; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; step-brother, Tom Panther and wife Jan of Robbinsville; step- sisters, Sandra Sharp and husband Roy of Marble, Gloria Mae Horton and husband Troy of Marble, Goldie Howell and husband Tony and Gladys Holland and husband Don all of Robbinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews, NC. Rev. Bo Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews VFW Post #7620. Pallbearers will be Rene Chavira, Floyd Walker, Jordan Raxter, Mark Hicks, Matthew Stillwell and James Carrier.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM-1 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews, NC.
