DOWNTOWN MURPHY, Cherokee Co, N.C.- Ending in June 2017, Cherokee County collected 97.49% of outstanding, current real estate and personal property taxes for the fiscal year 2016-2017. Evelyn Postell, Tax Collector Department Head, stated at the July 17, 2017, Cherokee County Board of Commissioners (BOC) meeting, “it’s the highest percentage we’ve ever had in Cherokee County.” The item was approved by the board with no one opposed.
As the 2nd new item of business at the meeting, the BOC approved (as required by law) the tax collector to collect taxes charged in the tax records. Dr. Dan Eichenbaum, Chairman of the BOC, quipped, “Go get ’em.”
