Lamont Johnson: Obituary

Lamont Johnson, 62, of Murphy passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 following an extended battle with cancer. Monty was a native of Michigan. He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. Monty worked on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, and the Intercoastal Waterway as a tugboat captain as a Merchant Marine. He made lifelong friends throughout his many adventures.

He was the son of Reba Henry Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada and the late Wilmont Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Duane Johnson.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his loving wife of 29 years, Melody Johnson; and a brother, Kim Johnson of Las Vegas.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Lamont Johnson to the Valley River Humane Society, PO Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906.
