MURPHY, NC – A boil-water advisory has been issued in advance for those effected by the scheduled water outage in Murphy beginning Thursday evening. Town Manager Chad Simons put out a statement Tuesday, Oct. 1, warning of the advisory.
In order to connect new taps to the system, customers of the Town of Murphy’s water system in the Peachtree area, located off of Hwy. 141 near the future location of the new nursing home, may experience “periods of low pressure and outages.”
Normal water and sewer services are expected to be restored by 7 a.m., Friday morning, Oct. 4.
Once that happens, a boil-water advisory will be in effect.
The period of low pressure increases the risk of bacteria being introduced into the water system.
Water samples will then be tested to see if the water is safe for human consumption. Results from those tests are expected back Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, according to Simons’ statement issued Tuesday.
Simons said the all-clear would be announced as soon as was possible Saturday, both online and through the 911 Cherokee County Emergency Management text/phone alert system.
From the time water is restored Oct. 4 until the all clear is given, residents are advised to boil all water used for human consumption or to use bottled water. Keeping water at a rolling boil for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water, according to the statement.
