Lady Bulldogs Throttle North Rowan, Advance to 2nd Round

Spencer, NC- Thanks to a 52 point first half, the Murphy Lady Bulldogs were able to handle North Rowan and advance to the sweet 16.

The Bulldogs had to do something they are not very accustomed to in recent years, and that is travel for a first round playoff game.

They found themselves as the 12 seed in the NCHSAA playoff brackets, so that meant they had to travel to Spencer, North Carolina to take on the 4 seeded North Rowan Lady Cavaliers.

The road trip didn’t seem to bother the Bulldogs however, as they came out sizzlin’, dropping 52 first half points and taking a 52-19 lead into the lockerroom.

They eventually won the game 66-35 after giving their starters some much needed rest in the second half.

In a shortened season rest may not seem like a big deal, but when it comes to the playoffs, a team will take any advantage they can get.

Being able to rest the starters in the second half also allotted playoff minutes for some role players, and that could be key down the stretch. Those minutes that those role players played tonight might just come in handy if their name is called when a usual starter is in foul trouble in a later playoff game.

Murphy is set to play undefeated and number 1 ranked Community School of Davidson on Thursday.

The Dogs, who head into Thursdays contest ranked 7th in 1A, will travel to Davidson, North Carolina to face the Spartans.
