Bulldogs Return to the Cross Country setting with Good Talent
By Brandon Stephens
(Murphy) – – Conditioning, potential, test, and performance are the four ingredients most cross country and track coaches work to instill or improve with their teams. Murphy Head Cross Country Coach Terry Jones is working diligently for the Murphy High and Middle School teams to build on last season’s work and success. The Bulldogs have good talent with several runners in the mix who won the middle school conference a few years ago and now moving up as senior leaders for middle school and experienced talent for the varsity squad.
Murphy Varsity Cross Country comprises eight girls and 11 boys. The middle school has 17 girls and 13 boys. Coach Jones is looking for greater performance in the steps to his vision of success.
Considering all the elements to making a good team with conditioning; improving a runner’s pace; examining potential to perform; and pushing for the greatest performance, there is another critical element. Murphy Senior runner Jake Miller says the team and individual spirit and performance to achieve is essential and is a focus of the squad’s development.
Touching or reaching success is not a new concept for Murphy’s women cross country runners. Sophomore Kennedy White points to team members who competed at the state level that have good Senior leadership and her experience of winning the conference a couple of years ago as an eighth grader. Kennedy says these experiences with success will fuel the team this season.
Murphy’s Cross Country team will run into action with a meet today (August 21st) at Hayesville for a 6PM meet. The meet will also include Cheroke, Andrews, Hiwassee Dam, Tri-County Early College, and Robbinsville.
