Bulldog Running Back Blake Davis Helps Carry the Team to 2-and-O

(Murphy) – – The Murphy Bulldog Junior Varsity football team is 2-and-O after a 16-to-12 win over the Mountain Heritage Cougars.  This week’s season home opening game is closer than last week’s big scoring game at Cherokee for Murphy.

Mountain Heritage held the lead six-to-nothing to close out the first quarter.  The Cougars controlled the ball for long stretches of the game and made some spectators believe Mountain Heritage would be in charge of the game.  The Cougars were unable to stop Murphy through the second and third quarters.  The Bulldogs gave good coverage and protection to running backs and ball carriers Blake Davis and Anthony Catuto.  Davis scored on a short carry to the end zone with 8:08 left in the second quarter.  He also made the two-point conversion to give Murphy the lead, which was maintained through the rest of the game.

Blake Davis is back in the end zone right after halftime.  At 7:50 left in the third quarter, Davis strutted 31 yards back to touchdown town to help post a 5 play, 2:05 minute, 65-yard scoring drive.  Anthony Catuto made the two-point conversion to give Murphy its 16^th point.  Mountain Heritage managed to score again with 6:28 remaining in the game and came up short on the conversion attempt.  Blake Davis credits a total team effort to win the game.

Murphy JV football team will travel to Mitchell next week for game number three.
