Cherokee County Detectives Apprehend Colorado Fugitive After Foot Pursuit in Culberson Area

MURPHY, N.C. — Detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a Colorado fugitive wanted on multiple nationwide warrants following a brief pursuit in the Culberson area.

According to a release issued May 1, the arrest occurred April 30 when investigators with the agency’s Criminal Investigation Division were working an unrelated case. Detectives observed a suspicious vehicle traveling along a shared residential driveway. When the driver noticed law enforcement, the vehicle fled down a dirt road into a wooded area before stopping.

Authorities said the suspect, later identified as Garret Mosher, attempted to leave the scene on foot but was quickly located and taken into custody.

Investigators reported that Mosher initially provided a false name. After officers were unable to verify the identity, he admitted who he was. A records check confirmed Mosher was wanted by the State of Colorado on four nationwide extraditable warrants related to parole violations.

While in custody and handcuffed, Mosher reportedly attempted to flee again but was quickly apprehended. He was additionally charged in Cherokee County with resisting a public officer.

Officials said the sheriff’s office is coordinating with the Colorado Department of Corrections Extraditions Unit to arrange for Mosher’s return to Colorado.

In a statement, Sheriff Chris Wood praised the efforts of his detectives, citing their professionalism and coordination in safely apprehending the fugitive.

The investigation remains ongoing.
