James T. Whittington: Obituary

James T. Whittington, age 77 and a 30 year resident of Clay County, NC passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Shreveport, LA., “Papa” Whittington was the son of Truly Whittington, and Trula Fisher Whittington of Shreveport. Papa served in the US Army before becoming a Deputy Sheriff in Shreveport, then retiring from the State of Alaska as an Adult Parole and Probation Officer for the North Slope Borough in Barrow, AK.

Papa is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ruth Stanley Whittington of Hayesville; sister, Sandra Powell and husband Ron of Shreveport; daughter, Jeannie O’grady and husband Danny of Sante Fe, Texas; son, Michael Whittington and wife Jeannie of Alvin, Texas; step-son, Scott Massey and step-niece, Amy Stanley both of Hayesville, as well as nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several, nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Papa was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Services are being handled by Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Hayesville where the family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15th between 3pm and 4pm, followed by a brief memorial service. Dr. Chester Jones and Rev. Todd Chester will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Lynch, David Cheeks, Johnny Vykukal, Paul Vykukal, Tommy England and Tommy Shook.
