MURPHY, N.C. – Cherokee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeana Conley stated Thursday, Jan. 25, that the school system is weighing options for potential make-up days, and in the process, is revising its school calendar.

Conley stressed that no official decision has been or will be made prior to the Feb. 8 Cherokee County Board of Education meeting.

According to Conley, the state of North Carolina mandates that the school year be finished by June 10. The superintendent also stated the school system will implement the use of virtual days, following the model employed by Transylvania County Schools, and she plans for the school year to be completed by June 1.

However, Conley mentioned that given the recent weather patterns this winter, the potential for further missed time is possible and would obviously force further changes to the school system’s plans.
