CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C. – A Cherokee County man was taken into custody on October 31, 2025, after authorities say he led a Narcotics Agent on a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision in the parking lot of the Old Martins Creek School.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when the agent initiated a traffic stop after noticing that a vehicle driven by Kobe Carter of Murphy had an expired registration. Carter allegedly refused to stop and attempted to flee, prompting a pursuit.

During the chase, the agent attempted a rolling roadblock in an effort to safely end the pursuit and protect the public. As the deputy maneuvered the patrol vehicle into position, investigators say Carter swerved and struck the patrol vehicle, forcing both vehicles off the roadway and into the school parking lot. The agent was then able to bring the pursuit to an end.

Authorities say Carter complied with commands following the collision and was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of contraband and two firearms.

Carter was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center and faces multiple charges, including:

  • Felony Flee to Elude
  • Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
  • Reckless Driving to Endanger
  • No Operator’s License
  • Expired Registration Card/Tag
  • Failure to Heed Lights or Siren
  • Expired Inspection

His bond was set at $50,000 secured. Carter’s initial court appearance is scheduled for November 4, 2025.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
