CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC – The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an unidentified person whose body was discovered late Tuesday night in the Hiwassee Dam community.

According to a news release issued Feb. 26, deputies responded to Cross Creek Lane on the night of Feb. 25 after the individual was located. Authorities have not released details about the circumstances surrounding the death.

The sheriff’s office is being assisted in the investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials said the case remains active but emphasized there is no threat to the community.

Additional information will be released once the individual has been positively identified and next of kin have been notified, authorities said.
