Robert W. “Bobby” Whitener, 59, of Murphy went home to be with his Lord Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his residence. He was a native and lifetime resident of Murphy. Bobby was employed by Southern Concrete for 15 years, retiring in 2009. He loved hunting and fishing, but, above all, he loved his family and kids. Bobby was a member of Vengeance Creek Baptist Church.

 

He was the son of Neva Jean Whitener of Murphy and the late Robert Elee Whitener.

 

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Ruth McGuire Whitener; a daughter, Lilli Whitener of the home; two sons, Dusty Satterfield and wife, Janis, and Tyler Satterfield all of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Nancy Whitener Golden and husband, Rev. Ned, and Neva Whitener Ellison and husband, Mike all of Murphy; two grandchildren, Madison and Cole Satterfield both of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; close friends, Stacey and Derik Messer and family; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Vengeance Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Derrick Palmer, Daniel Stewart, and Darren Cook officiating. The interment will be in McGuire Cemetery in the West Buffalo Community of Robbinsville. Pallbearers will be Derik Messer, Greg Johnson, Gordon Farmer, Mike Ellison, Cody Golden, and William Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim McGuire, Bobby Mathis, Eric Messer, Junior Graves, Johnny Hooper, Lynn Shields, R.L. Jordan, and Fred Guffey.

 

The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Sunday afternoon at the Vengeance Creek Baptist Church prior to the services.

 

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Robert W. “Bobby” Whitener to The Gideons International, PO Box 164, Murphy, NC 28906.
