Edwin Douglas Mulkey, 71, of Murphy passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 in an Asheville V.A. hospital. He was born in Murphy to the late Edwin Lewis and Ruby McClure Mulkey. He was preceded in death by his sister, Tobitha Mulkey.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Sue Mulkey; a son, Edwin Benjamin Mulkey; sister, Teresa Hendricks; step-son, James Moore; step-daughter, Vanessa Shore; step-grandson, Tyler Allen Shore; and a nephew, Aaron Hendricks.
Doug served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 as a combat engineer. After the Army, he finished college and earned his degree in Bachelors of Fine Art. He went on to be a graphic designer. He married his wife, Deborah on May 14, 2016 and was on his honeymoon when he passed away. His favorite quote, he loved telling anybody he came in contact with is “You are never too old to fall in love”. He was a true gentlemen with such a loving kind heart. He will be missed my many who knew him.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 4, 2016 in the Murphy Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Alan Wildsmith officiating and military rites provided by the Murphy American Legion Post 96, VFW Post 10222, Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol), and American Legion Post 532.
