George Sterling Hunt, age 87, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 in a Murphy care facility. He was a native of New Haven, Connecticut. George had served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and Korea. He worked with International Silver while in Connecticut as a comptroller. He later moved to Tampa, Florida and worked as a comptroller for General Portland Cement Company until his retirement. George moved to Murphy in 2004.

He was the son of the late Edith Violet Hunt Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Ann Hunt, who died December 31, 2003; a daughter, Janice M. Raynor; two sisters, Beatrice and Muriel Hunt; and a brother, Richard Hunt.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Simmons and husband, Marshall Jr. of Murphy; four sons, Gregory Hunt and wife, Renee of Atlanta, Georgia, Geoffrey Hunt of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Randy Abbott and Scott Abbott both of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Harold Smith Jr.; and 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
