Frances Polly Ledford Hughes, 78, of Hayesville passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at her residence. She was a native of Clay County, but moved to Marietta, Georgia shortly after high school. She worked for 30 years as an operator for Bell South until her retirement. She moved back to Hayesville in 2004. Polly liked canning and country music concerts, but caring for her grandchildren was her favorite pastime.

She was the daughter of the late Neal and Rose Anderson Ledford and the wife of the late Albert Hughes, who died March 16, 1975. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Patterson, Lucille Bryant and Bobbie Jane Crook; and three brothers, Edward, Jack, and Gene Ledford.

Surviving are a daughter, Angela Parker and husband, Carroll of Hayesville; a son, Randy Hughes of Powder Springs, Georgia; three sisters, Christine Penland of Hayesville, Norine Bryant of York, South Carolina, and Joann Bristol and husband, Richard of Hayesville; five grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, and Braden Parker, Blair Hughes and wife, Kristen, and Danielle Hughes; two great grandchildren, Darren Jackson and Jackson Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Revs. Jimmy Rogers and Rusty Smart officiating. The interment will be in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Tyler, Trevor, and Braden Parker, Blair Hughes, Steve Richardson, and Broadus Ledford.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Frances Polly Ledford Hughes to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
