Peggy Morgan Thompson, 77, of Nantahala Community, Topton passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 in a Murphy hospital. She was a native of Macon County where she had lived most of her life.  She had worked as a CNA in nursing facilities as well as for private care.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Peggy was a voracious reader and huge proponent of education. She cherished her pets, loved to paint and draw, and was especially fond of the beach. Peggy was especially proud of her accomplishments as a graduate of the New Opportunity School at Berea College.

She was the daughter of the late Zeb Clifton and Gladys Rowland Morgan and the wife of the late John Robert Thompson, who died in 1974. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Gregory Thompson.

Surviving are three daughters, Natalie Ann Grant of Nantahala, Karen Grant of Canton, Georgia, and Jacqueline Lynn Woodard and husband, Thomas of Salisbury, North Carolina; two sons, Charles “Chuck” Grant and wife, Deborah of Nantahala and Robert Clifton Thompson and wife, Deanna of Andrews; four grandchildren, Rylee Caroline Thompson, Robert Matthew Thornton, Gabrielle Michaela Wilde Grant, and Sarah Elizabeth Hefner.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Valleytown Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Hollowell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:30 Saturday morning at the Valleytown Baptist Church prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Peggy Morgan Thompson to the Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Nantahala Community Library.
