Gaines L. Jones, “Toby”, 76, of Blue Ridge, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on August 18th, 2016.
He was a native of Blue Ridge, but lived most of his life in Lithonia, Georgia before moving back to Blue Ridge this year.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Toby retired in 2002 after many years working as a service member for Volvo and International Harvesters. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and being outside.
Toby was kindhearted, caring, polite, and one of a kind. His love for his family, friends, and the wife he adored will always be remembered. He was a wonderful man with a big smile and a bigger heart.
All were blessed who came into contact with Toby. He devoted his life to walk as a Godly man, which he did flawlessly. Toby was loved and will be missed. Psalms 30:5, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia.
He was the son of the late Carter Tate and Jewel Shell Jones and the husband of the late Wilma Christine Gladson Jones, who died July 28, 2015, of whom he deeply loved and cherished. They were married for 53 years.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Harper of Blue Ridge; two sisters-in-law, Betty Gladson of Murphy and Betty Gladson Totherow of Young Harris, Georgia; three nieces, Courtney Collins, Kim Hamer, and Sharon Stiles; and three nephews, Nicholas Singleton, Stephen Ramsey, and Doug Collins.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2016 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. Bob Halstead and Steve Ware officiating. The interment was in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Allen Collins, Nick Singleton, Brad Hamer, Easton Hamer, Doug Collins, and Stephen Ramsey.
The family received friends from 12:00 PM -1:45 PM Monday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Gaines L. Jones, “Toby”, to the Gideons International, PO Box 164, Murphy, NC 28906.
