Edwin Clarence Hendrix, 81, of Murphy died peacefully Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in his home. He was born July 4, 1935 in Cherokee County. Edwin graduated from Western Carolina University. He had a brief career teaching in Cherokee County Schools before he became the Director of the local North Carolina Probation office where he was employed until his retirement. He continued as a resource person reviewing cases on the state level. Edwin was a member and deacon of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.

Edwin enjoyed collecting cars, bicycles, large gasoline signs, and guns. He was a big fan of the actor, Roy Rogers. Edwin met him and had his picture made with him. That was a prized possession which he shared often with visitors.

He was the son of the late Clarence and Meb Sudderth Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by a twin brother, David Monroe Hendrix; and a sister, Mildred Hendrix Stewart.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy Jones Hendrix; a son, Michael Edwin Hendrix and wife, Dina of Murphy; a granddaughter, Claire Hendrix; a grandson, Grant Hendrix; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 25, 2016 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Davis Bryant officiating. The interment was in Peachtree Community Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Bradshaw, G.W. Hendrix, Jerry Sudderth, Franklin Barnett, Jim Hendrix, and Todd Davis.

The family received friends from 12-1:45 Friday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
