The Great Andrews’ Total Solar Eclipse
Solar Eclipse, State & National July 23, 2017ANDREWS, N.C.- The Great American Solar Eclipse, also known as a Total Solar Eclipse is coming only to the United States of America August 21st 2017. Falling on a Monday, the eclipse will peak at approximately 2:35pm EST. Andrews, N.C. will see the longest duration of totality in Cherokee County, N.C. with an estimated 2 minutes and 39 seconds of totality. Totality is the moment or duration of total obscuration of the sun or moon during an eclipse.
“Andrews gets the longest duration of totality, that’s where everyone’s wanting to be” -said Robin Caldwell, Emergency Management Director for Cherokee County, MONDAY during the Board of Commissioners meeting.
Western North Carolina is preparing for an influx of over a million people. Andrews is hosting a three day event starting Saturday August 19th 2017 , and ending Monday August 21st 2017. Town of Andrews have reserved extra shuttle buses, are equipping its parking lots and Heritage Park with 100 port-a-potties, and will have all staff available to provide security for expensive equipment being brought in from 60 different domestic telescope groups from all over the country.
