Cherokee Co. School Board OKs Raises for Nutrition Staff & School Lunch Price

News

CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C.- Cherokee County School Board approved the proposed Budget for School Nutrition on Monday, July 31st, 2017, calling to increase the wages of school nutrition staff as well as to increase the school lunch price. School Nutrition Managers will be brought up to being paid on the state scale and all other cafeteria employees will now be paid $8.75/hour. This increase in wages was admittedly long overdue, staff having been paid below the state’s minimum wage.

The USDA requires the same level of support for those students paying for full paid meals to be comparable to the cost for state reimbursed meals, so the proposed budget calls for $.10 increase to the price of high school student meals. The new high school lunch price will be $2.85 per meal.
