Eclipse Update

Dr. Jeana Conley

CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C.- Superintendent Dr. Jeana Conley announced at the latest Cherokee County School Board meeting on July 31st, 2017, “Due to the reports that we are receiving from Public Safety Agencies, we will be calling August 21st, which is a scheduled Optional Work Day, to be treated in the form of a Snow Day or a No Day.”

“Due to the reports that we are receiving from Public Safety Agencies, we will be calling August 21st, which is a scheduled Optional Work Day, to be treated in the form of a Snow Day or a No Day.”

Superintendent Conley is referring to the unofficial warnings by public safety agencies that the best policy for locals is to stay home on the day of the eclipse. She continued, stating, “Teachers may work with their principals to swap their time,” mentioning that “if you drive by our schools you will see parking lots already full of teachers working on their own time.” She suggests that it will be easy for teachers to just, “swap one of those days.” “Due to the eclipse, we are advising that everyone just kind of stay home and take care of their own. Unless they are working or collaborating with a school event or a Cherokee county event, of course then they can use it as their optional work day.”
