MURPHY, N.C.- ​September​ ​19,​ ​2017​ ​at​ ​6:30 p.m.​ the​ ​Board​ ​of​ ​Commissioners​ ​held​ ​a​ ​meeting​ ​on​ ​Tuesday,​ ​discussing​ ​many​ ​of​ ​the​ ​county’s​ ​tumult​ ​topics.​ ​

Some​ ​of​ ​these​ ​topics​ ​included​ ​finances​ ​and budget,​ ​taxes,​ ​and​ ​animal​ ​control.

Representatives​ ​from​ ​many​ ​fields​ ​were​ ​present​ ​to​ ​verify​ ​budget​ ​spending​ ​and​ ​cash​ ​flow. During​ ​this​ ​portion​ ​of​ ​the​ ​meeting,​ ​the​ ​Cherokee​ ​County​ ​Detention​ ​Center​ ​requested​ ​an​ ​amount from​ ​their​ ​influx​ ​of​ ​recent​ ​funds​ ​to​ ​use​ ​towards​ ​new​ ​equipment​ ​to​ ​improve​ ​the​ ​centers​ ​operation, one​ ​element​ ​being​ ​a​ ​new​ ​transport​ ​vehicle.​ ​

Many​ ​other​ ​budgets​ ​were​ ​drawn​ ​out,​ ​this​ ​just​ ​being one​ ​of​ ​the​ ​longer​ ​topics​ ​of​ ​interest.  The​ ​most​ ​considerable​ ​topic​ ​of​ ​the​ ​evening​ ​consisted​ ​of​ ​those​ ​concerned​ ​with​ ​animal control.​ ​

Sheriff​ ​Derrick​ ​Palmer​ ​spoke​ ​in​ ​terms​ ​for​ ​the​ ​proposed​ ​animal​ ​control​ ​plans​ ​for​ ​the county.​ ​His​ ​speech​ ​included​ ​animal​ ​owner​ ​responsibilities,​ ​animal​ ​control​ ​officer​ ​operation,​ ​and a​ ​budget​ ​for​ ​all​ ​of​ ​the​ ​considered​ ​expenses​ ​it​ ​entails.​ ​
