Wendell Dean Summers: Obituary

Dean was born in Kirksville, MO to Timothy Summers and Ada (Stiles) Summers. He was the 4th of 5 siblings. He was pre-deceased by both parents, Timothy and Ada; his two sisters, Phyllis Greer and Karen Lus and brother Keith Summers. He is survived by one brother, Farrel Wayne Summers of Otis Orchards, WA and also leaves behind some special nieces and nephews.
As a young boy, his family moved to Spokane, WA. Following high school he enlisted in the US Navy where he served for four years, stationed in Groton, CT at the US Submarine base, aboard the USS Sunbird. It was there he met his surviving wife, Fredericka Summers. They raised three children, Matthew Summers, Janice (Summers) Cochran and Brett Summers. Matthew and his wife Tami live in New London, CT; Janice and her husband Tim live in Canton, GA and Brett Summers lives in Port Charlotte, FL. He has two grandsons, Kyle Cochran of Canton, GA and Joshua Davis lives in Colchester, CT with his partner, Ryan Mansi.
Dean worked as a Union Carpenter on a variety of major projects which took him and his family across the country. The construction of the Eisenhower Tunnel called, and the family moved to Idaho Springs, CO.
Upon returning to Connecticut, Dean joined the Army National Guard serving at the Danielson Armory and later at the AVCRAD in Groton, CT where he finally retired from the military.
With his love of wood working and carpentry, Dean lovingly completed and restored an old mill house in Lisbon, CT that he and his family called home for 15 years.
In 1994 he moved with his wife to Punta Gorda, FL. and finally retiring in 1998 in Murphy, NC.
Dean loved life, his faith, his family, his friends and his country.
A graveside service with military honors will take place in Connecticut at the convenience of the family.
