Richard Postell

Richard Postell, age 63 of Murphy, NC passed away Monday, January 7, 2018 at his residence.

Richard was born on July 6, 1955 in Andrews, NC and the son of the late Rev. Ralph Dee and Juanita Hicks Postell. He was a loving and caring son, husband, father, brother and friend. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by brothers Morris Postell, Norris Postell and Mike Postell and a sister, Marilyn Amos.

Richard was a member and deacon of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Murphy, NC. He had previously served as deacon at Ranger Baptist Church. Richard had a true servant heart. He constantly looked for ways to help other people and would give you the shirt off his back. He was affectionately known as the “Candy Man” because he gave away candy everywhere he went. He was a hardworking man who spent his life doing mostly telephone construction. He had been owner/operator of Postell Telephone Construction until retiring in 2008. He loved working with his hands and could do just about anything. He also loved hunting, fishing and riding his Harley.

Survivors include: mother, Juanita Hicks Postell of Andrews, NC; wife of 45 years, Evelyn Potts Postell; son, Travis Richard Postell; sisters, Barbara Baine (Wayne) of Murphy and Rebecca Campbell (Vader) of Robbinsville, NC; brothers, Alan Postell (Rosalee) and Jim Postell (Cyndi) of Andrews, NC; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Red Marble Baptist Church in Andrews. Rev. Gerald Derreberry and Rev. Zach Orton will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy and will also receive friends from 1-2 pm, Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Red Marble Baptist Church in Andrews.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
