Madeleine McConnell Horan, 92, of Brasstown passed away surrounded by her loving daughters` Thursday, July 4, 2019 in a Murphy care facility. She was a native of Eastport, Maine, but had lived most of her life in Brasstown, NC. Madeline had worked as a supervisor for many years in the Electronic Manufacturing Industry. She worked for RCA, Bose and Honeywell, who was providing components for the NASA Gemini Space Program. Madeleine later began working as a dietician for Murphy Medical Center and later retired. She was a charter member of Cherokee Trail Decorative Painters and had also served as secretary. Madeleine had attended Little Brasstown Baptist Church for many years. She was a talented artist and had taught many classes.
She was the daughter of the late Morris Garfield and Velma Beatrice Crowell McConnell, and the wife of the late William Joseph Horan, who died August 17, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Harvey; a sister, Kathryn Cookman; and a brother, Stephen McConnell.
Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Mercer and husband, Richard of Brasstown, and Mary Jane Bettis of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, Midge McConnell and wife, Myrna of Lincoln, Maine; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in the chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Interment was in Little Brasstown Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark, Chad, and Todd Mercer, Chris Fehn, Jonathan Herriman, and Philip Hohman.
The family received friends from 12-1:45 Tuesday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
