CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C. – While N.C. Governor Roy Cooper isn’t advising closing schools at this time, Cherokee County Schools are taking measures to ensure students can learn from home.
In a Facebook statement, the school district said the following:
“Good evening, Cherokee County Families. Today each of our schools sent home a letter with information about our At-Home Curriculum Extension and Digital Learning plans for students. Although these plans were created and intended for use during a possible weather event, we understand that the current national health events have created concern. Like all of you, we are continuously monitoring developments in the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). At this time, Cherokee County Schools has not been advised by State or Local Health Agencies to make any changes to our school schedules. However, our At-Home Curriculum Extension and Digital Learning packets help ensure that in the event of inclement weather or any other closure events, our schools will be prepared. The safety and health of our students, families, faculty, and community are a top priority. We will continue to track the situation daily and follow the guidance of local government and health officials for the areas that are impacted.”
