The #10 seed Murphy Lady Bulldogs played host to #15 seed South Stokes last night in the second round of the NCHSAA 1A State Softball Playoffs. The Dogs came away with a 3-1 win, thanks to some stellar pitching from Jersey Schwalm.

It looked like all roads were headed for another Robbinsville-Murphy matchup after Murphy picked up their first round win over Chatham Charter earlier in the week, but the #15 seed South Stokes Sauras upset the #2 seed Black Knights and allowed the Bulldogs to host a second round home playoff game.

UNC-Chapel Hill commit Annie-Kate Dalton continued her impressive senior season, going 2-2 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Riley Dockery also drove in a run for the Dogs. Along with Dockery and Dalton-Grace Nelson, Ansley hogsed and Kaiya Pickens all picked up hits in the game.

Jersey Schwalm was in the circle for the Dogs as mentioned previously, and she had one heck of an outing. She threw all 7 innings while only allowing 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 6.

Up next for the Lady bulldogs is undefeated Mountain Island Charter. The Raptors are currently ranked 2nd in the State in 1A Softball, while the Bulldogs are ranked 17th. The Dogs will look to pull off the upset tonight in Mt. Holly, North Carolina.
