Absconding Sex Offender Captured

Murphy, NC—The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reports the December 08, 2021 arrest of convicted sex offender Anthony Wayne Dendy, a 44 year old male of Murphy North Carolina for Violation of the North Carolina Sex Offender registry.
In July 2021, Anthony Dendy was arrested for violations of the North Carolina Sex Offender Registration statutes for failing to report any on-line identifiers. Dendy was released on a secure bond on 7/29/2021.
In August 2021 Dendy failed to return his verification letter as required and upon attempting to deliver to his last registered address information was made know that Dendy had left and had not provided a new address as required by the Registry Statutes. Pursuant to that allegation the investigator swore to a warrant for the arrest of Dendy and had the warranted entered into NCIC with unlimited extradition.
On December 06, 2021 the investigator received notification from Anderson County SC that Dendy had registered with their agency and upon verification that the warrant was active Dendy was arrested. Dendy waived extradition and was brought back to Cherokee County.
Dendy is currently detained at the Cherokee County Detention Center on $5,000.00 secure bond for the following charges: FAIL REPORT NEW ADDRESS-SEX OFF. Dendy has a December 16, 2021 Cherokee County District Court date.
Chief Deputy Joe Wood stated “Again we see the importance of the Sex Offender Registry as an outstanding tool in keeping track of those who have offended against victims, both adult and children. The continued team work by our agency and utilizing all available tools helps our community keep track of the offenders which as in this case impacts other communities as well.”
