Murphy Combine Standouts

Ryan Payne (2026 WR/FS)

Payne had an outstanding day at the combine. He was consistent across the leader board finishing 1st on the team in the laser 40, 3rd in the 3-cone and 4th in the Broad Jump at 8’10.5.

Quick agile athlete with good top end speed. Finished 2nd on the Bulldogs last season with 15 receptions , averaging over 21 ypc with 4 TDs. Slated to be Murphy’s #1 option downfield this Fall. Was spectacular on the defensive side of the ball last year registering 44 TT and had a team leading 5 INTs.

Chandler Nernes (2025 WR/DB)

Nernes finished the day 2nd in the 40, 8th in the 3-cone, and had an impressive 9’4 broad jump to lead the Bulldogs on the day.

The 5’10 rising Senior should have an opportunity this season to show what he’s got as he transitions the off field tangibles to the on field.

Brady Grant (2026 QB)

Outstanding day for the QB1. Finished 5th on the team in the 40. He had a 4.31 3-cone that ties him for 1st among the 200 participants overall and finished 3rd on the team in the Broad jump with an impressive 9’0.

Returning QB1 for the Bulldogs that passed for over 1000 yards last season with 15 TDs. He had a season high 205 passing with 3 TDs in a playoff loss to Mt. Airy in November. Athletic quick QB with a lot of leg strength.

Will Shore (2025 RB/CB)

The rising Senior showed up in the Top 5 in all 3 categories. He finished 4th in the 40, 5th in the 3-cone and finished 2nd in the Broad Jump beating the elusive 9ft mark with a jump of 9’3.

The rising Senior had 37 TT last season on defense with a game high 8 against Fannin Co. He also added an INT in the New Faith game. Had limited touches on offense last year but did avg close to 12 yards per touch with a 20 yard TD reception vs New Faith.

Camden Breazeale ( 2026 DE)

Personally one of my favorite “finds” from the camp. The 6’3 185 DE was very impressive in the metrics. He finished 3rd on the team in the 40, and 4th in the 3 cone and was 7th on the team in the broad jump with a 8’5.

Breazeale got it done on the field last season. He had 108 TT with 18 TFL earning All Western North Carolina Region honors. A very impressive athlete in person.

Other Notables:

Rising Junior LB Brody Orton: The 6’1 200 pound LB has a great frame and shows a lot of athleticism for his size. He was in the top 7 in all 3 categories. He got it done on the field last season with 105 TT with 6 TFL.

Kandence Leatherwood the rising Senior LB had 84 TT last season with 6 TFL. He knocked out a team leading 21 reps in the benchpress competition at the combine.
