Swain County looks for the first win of the season

(Bryson City) – – The Swain County Maroon Devil football team is looking for its first win of the season after a 21-to-11 lost to Charlotte Country Day last week.  The Buccaneers have been loaded with great talent which includes a quarter back committed to Kennesaw State, a wide receiver committed to Florida State, a linebacker committed to Coastal Carolina University, and a tackle that is headed to Ole Miss.  There may be more members of this team headed to play college football.

Swain County has turned its attention to the Smoky Mountain Mustangs this week.  This historic rivalry brings the Mustangs to Bryson City with a 1-and-0 record after defeating the Cherokee Braves 34-to-21.  The Cherokee Braves held the lead early and worked to stop the Mustangs.  Mustang senior running back Ayden Johnson proved to be too much for Cherokee with 283 yards rushing on 25 carries averaging 11 yards per carry.  Johnson will be a key for the Maroon Devils.  Coach Sherman Holt talks about the game last week and the challenge Smoky Mountain will present.

The Swain County Maroon Devils and Smoky Mountain will kick off the game in Bryson City at Memorial Stadium/Boyce Deitz Field.
