Swain County Looks For First Win of the Season

By Brandon Stephens

(Bryson City) – – The Swain County Maroon Devils football team is on the hunt for its first win of the season Friday in Bryson City with a game against Tuscola.  Swain suffered a 35-to-7 loss last week at Franklin.  The Maroon Devils is working through injuries to keep the ball moving.  Tuscola Mountaineers are reminded of the 30-to-26 loss it suffered in Waynesville last season.  Swain County Head Football Coach Sherman Holt says another week of focused practice and taking care of the ball is the focus as the Maroon Devils are relying on some younger players.

Tuscola is led with a strong passing game.  Mountaineer Junior quarterback Jett Bartley has been leading the offensive charge with a 60 percent completion rate that has helped the majority of its scoring.  Bo West, Bridger Jones, and Isaiah Hyatt are the skilled receivers for Tuscola which will test the Swain County defense.  Rushing is a bit lighter than normal for a mountain football team.  Senior running back Cooper Williams leads the team with about 50 yards per game rushing.

The Maroon Devils and Tuscola Mountaineers will kick off the game Friday night at 7:30 at Memorial Stadium/Boyce Deitz Field.
