2025 Ushers in More inter-conference Play
As you can see from the records listed above, no team has played more than two big Smoky Mountain Conference games. That means we are in for an onslaught of SMC rivalry games down the stretch, and it’s pretty much anyone’s race at this point. EVERY SMC matchup is going to be crucial for every team so it’s hard to sit here and pick “games to watch”, instead let’s look at some of the notable non-conference games still on the schedule.
Andrews vs Franklin Jan. 9th
The Cats fell victim to the Panthers in their earlier matchup this season, but I have a good feeling this one will go much differently. No chance this game ends up 85-33 like it did in November.
Murphy @ Gilmer County (GA) Jan. 11th
This will be a good road test for the Dogs as they travel to AAAA Gilmer County. Murphy started slow out of the gate, but they’ve found their footing heading into the new year. It will be interesting to see if they can keep it close against a good Bobcats team.
Robbinsville vs North Buncombe Jan. 8th
The Black Knights host North Buncombe on Wednesday as they look to avenge their earlier season loss to the Black Hawks. Robbinsville only trailed by 4 at halftime when they faced Buncombe in December, so it will be interesting to see if the home crowd can give them a leg up on the Black Hawks this time around.
Cherokee @ AC Reynolds Jan. 29th
The current leaders of the Smoky Mountain Conference, Cherokee has a tough stretch of games on their schedule to end January. The Braves are on the road vs Andrews, AC Reynolds, and Hayesville in a span of just 4 days to cap off the month.
