Keith Patton, 58, of Hayesville passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Habersham County, Georgia, but was raised in Clay County from the age of two. He was a 1979 graduate of Hayesville High School and played in the band in both high school and college. He graduated from Western Carolina University, receiving his master’s degree in public health and administration. Keith worked in several states but the majority of his work took place in North Carolina as a health administrator. He attended the United Methodist Church. Keith was a charter member of the Franklin County Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed restoring furniture and photography.

He is the son of Jane Dailey Patton of Hayesville and the late Richard J. Patton, who died February 6, 2018.

Surviving, in addtion to his mother, are his wife, Kathy Patton; a son, Richard L. Patton of Oxford, North Carolina; and a niece and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Jackie Sellers officiating. The interment will be in Union Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John B. Patton, Timothy Hall, Mike Hedden, Jimmy Patton, and Mitchell Dayton.

Stanley Warth Jr., 93, of Hiawassee, Georgia, formerly of Hayesville, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 in a Towns County, Georgia care facility. He was a native of Atlanta, Georgia and lived in Hayesville since 1985. He was a 1944 graduate of Landon High School in Jacksonville, Florida and was a 1948 graduate from the University of Florida with a degree in economics. Stanley was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy. He was employed with Southern Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Stanley was a member of the American Legion Post 532 in Hayesville and the Hayesville First United Methodist Church.

He was the son of the late Stanley and Laura Hobbs Warth. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Warth; and a half-brother, Hal Warth.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Martha Neal Haigler Warth; a daughter, Sherry Warth McHenry and husband, David of Hayesville; four grandchildren, Katie McHenry Crouch, Jennifer McHenry Julian, Anne Michele Warth DiPietro, and Jared Warth; and a great grandson, Slade DiPietro.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in the Hayesville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kirk Hatherly officiating. The inurnment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812, Hayesville American Legion Post 532, and Murphy American Legion Post 96.

Geneva Berrong Reese, 102, of Dallas, Georgia, formerly of Murphy, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Kernersville, North Carolina. She was a native of Cherokee County, but moved to Smyrna, Georgia in 1965. She was a loving mother and grandmother to five generations of family. She was a former member of Reid’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Geneva enjoyed working outside and gardening.

She was the daughter of the late Monroe and Oma Lee Allen Berrong and the wife of the late Ernest William Reese, who died in 1964. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Reese; a son, Kenneth Reese; three sisters, Ruth Hickey, Janet Patterson, and Helen Winn; a brother, Ralph Berrong.

Surviving are a daughter, Marjorie Vermillion of Kernersville, North Carolina; two sons, Ernest Reese Jr. of Woodstock, Georgia and Harry Reese and wife, Judy of Dallas, Georgia; eight grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Reid’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert K. Boozer officiating.

Marvin Stiles, age 84 of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Murphy Rehab and Nursing.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Nathan and Hattie Cook Stiles. He was a US Army veteran. Marvin was a member of South End Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Stiles; two brothers, William and Arvil Stiles and two sisters, Annie Timpson and Norma Roberson.

He is survived by three sons, Randal Stiles and wife Terry, Bill Stiles and wife Janice and Steve Stiles; three daughters, Trish Golden and husband Warren, Becky Sams and husband Dan and Shirl Nix and husband Jimmy; one sister, Hazel Cornwell; 29 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Ray McCray, 65, of Hayesville passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in a Henderson County, North Carolina care facility.

Nicholas Michael Menasian, age 40 of Louisville,KY passed away Saturday August 24, 2019 at his residence. He was a telephone lineman for most of his life.

Nicholas was the son of the late Edward Menasian and Susan Slavin Roper.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Barry Slavin Sr. and aunt, Dawn Slavin.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Lane Roper; son, Caleb Menasian; daughters, Brianna and Alexia Menasian; brother, Marc Menasian; sisters, Karen Menasian and Miranda Wike; grandmother, Shirley Slavin; uncles and aunts;  Danielle Slavin, Michael Slavin, and Gina and Stan Hearn; niece, Alie Slavin and nephews, Zach and Max Slavin and girlfriend of 8 years, Tammy Smith.

Jim Blomeley Sr., reposed on Thursday, August 22, 2019 in Murrieta, California, at the age of 89. Jim Blomeley was born on September 28, 1929 in Cefala, Alabama, the son of William Stanley Blomeley Sr. and Ursalene Ezrey Blomeley. He was one of three boys, and his father was a master carpenter who traveled all over the south from job to job, including the Kennedy compound in West Palm Beach, Florida. He also farmed in several locations throughout the south.

Jim married Mary Louise “Toni” Roberts, and three children were born: Deborah, James, and Nicholas. Jim worked much of his life as a lithographer for a printing company, lithography being a trade that no longer exists. For his entire life, he loved printing presses, and would travel long distances to see an antique press that someone had uncovered. He also loved to garden, and could seemingly without effort produce huge crops.

After the death of Toni Roberts Blomeley in 1999, Jim reconnected with a college girlfriend in 2005, Beverly Brown. They married and he moved to California to live with her. He and Beverly were very good for each other, and their years together were extremely happy.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was also preceded in death by his youngest son, Nicholas, who died in 2016.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly Blomeley of Murrieta, California; children, Deborah Gredler and husband, Mark of McDonough, Georgia, and James Blomeley and wife, Susan of Murphy; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Greenlawn Cemetery in Peachtree. Pastor Don Yancheson of the Murphy Seventh-day Adventist Church will conduct the services.

Mabel Elizabeth Craft, age 91 of Young Harris, Ga passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at the North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

Mabel was the daughter of the late Theo and Raymoth Gresham. She enjoyed playing games, gardening and cooking (famous for her biscuits). Mabel always looked forward to her many “family girl trips”.  She loved her church and church family at Hayesville Presbyterian.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn R. Craft.

She is survived by one son Mike Craft and wife Jo; three daughters, Gloria Duvall and husband Larry, Sherry Siple and husband Frank and Charlene Creasman and husband Richard; five sisters, Dean Mooney, Mary Jane Holland, Betty Lou Elliott, Tommie Kay Smith and Ann Morse; seven grandchildren, Adam Craft and wife Erica, Eric Craft and wife Brooke, Chip Duvall and wife Angela, Michelle Wehunt and husband David, Jeff Siple and wife Sara, Lisa Brooks and husband Jason and Paul Barnes; 17 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Beatrice Faye Chastain, 49, of Murphy passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019 in an Andrews care facility. She was a native and lifetime resident of Murphy. She worked at Industrial Opportunities Inc. for over 25 years. Beatrice loved her cats and dogs and she enjoyed coloring. Beatrice loved people and had a hug for everyone she encountered. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was the daughter of the late Olen Lake and Lorain Sutton Chastain. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Chastain and Narvil Chastain; and two half-sisters, Marilyn Wallace and Tammy Burnett.

Surviving are three sisters, Patricia Ashe and husband, Wayne of Murphy, Diane Owl of Marble, and Mary Ann Measmer and husband, Gene of Murphy; four brothers, Olen Doug “Bondo” Chastain and wife, Marie and Arvil Chastain and wife, Alva, all of Murphy, Avery Chastain of Blairsville, Georgia, and Olin Lake Chastain and wife, Becky of Buford, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2019 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Darrell Dockery officiating. Music will be provided by the Smoky Mountain Singers. The interment will be in Peachtree Community Cemetery. Delmont Gerald Light

Delmont Gerald Light, age 86, of Marble, NC passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Earl Sylvestor Light and Hattie Mae Hartung Light. Delmont was an active member of St. Williams Catholic Church for many years. He was a past Eucharistic Minister and an Usher. Delmont was also a Board member Representative for Desoto Square. He was a loving husband and father. Delmont was a US Army veteran.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosemary Light; two sons, Jeffery Light of Edison, New Jersey and Donald Light of Pottsville, Arkansas; two daughters, Linda Light of Glen Gardner, New Jersey and Susan Foti of Bridgewater, New Jersey; one sister, June; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Friday, June 28, 2019 at the St. Williams Catholic Church. Deacon Carl will officiate.

Dallas Patterson, age 84 of Covington, GA and formerly of Murphy passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 in Covington, GA.

Dallas was a native of Cherokee, County NC. He was a son of the late Robert and Zana Shackleford Patterson. He had attended Unaka Baptist Church before moving to Loganville, GA in the 70’s. Dallas loved the outdoors and riding horses.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dale, Winford, Rual, Kenneth, Troy, Robert Jr. and Harold Patterson; and sisters, June Maney, Violet Stiles and Bernice Palmer.

Surviving are his sons, Dennis Patterson, Ricky Patterson and William Patterson; brother, Melvin Patterson; sisters, Geraldine Lewis and Linda Johnson; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Irene “Cricket” Grindstaff, age 95 of Andrews, NC passed away Monday, June 24, 2019.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Jess Porter and Anna Drake Collett. “Cricket” loved to work in her flowers and enjoyed sewing, cooking and canning.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gene, Cecil and Garry Collett and Odell Roper.

She is survived by one son, Dexter Grindstaff and wife Lindy of Canton, GA; one daughter, Shela Seay and husband John of Andrews; two brothers, Ned Collett of Andrews and Joe Collett of Jonesboro, GA; two sisters, Fern Pritchett of Ellijay, GA and Maxine Gragg of Candler, NC; four grandchildren, Travis, Matthew, Megan and Jacob; two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Valleytown Baptist Church. Pastor Eric Byrd, Rev. Marlon Blaylock will officiate. An eulogy will be given by John Cook. Ruby L. Pace

Ruby L. Pace, age 91 of Marble, NC, born April 18, 1928 went home to be with Jesus and loved ones gone before on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.

Ruby was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Dovie Sharp Payne. She was a seamstress in the clothing manufacturing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Glenn Noah Pace in 1993; and one great-grandchild, Leah Brown, and many other family and friends.

She is survived by five children, Mary Ruth Palmer, Helen Baliles, Marvin Pace (Melinda), Martha Fullbright (Dale) and Robert Pace (Maxine); six grandchildren, Monica Pace, Derrick Ledford, Cheri Collier, Eric Pace, Colleen Fowler(Jeff) and Jamie Bateman; and eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler and Haley Ledford, Jacob and Jessie Ann Brown, Brennon Collier, Autumn and Sara Beth Fowler and Lakelyn Gann.

Robert “Claude” Stiles

Robert “Claude” Stiles, age 82 of Murphy, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at his residence.

Claude was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. He was a son of the late McKinley and Minnie Hedrick Stiles. Claude was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Montgomery Masonic Lodge #426. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Stiles; infant brother; son, Donnie J. Stiles; brothers, Warren, Herman, Homer and Jack Stiles; and sisters, Norma Nix, Vaude King, May Roberts and Oma Taylor.

Surviving are his son, Lonnie G. Stiles of Murphy; daughter, Jeanette Loudermilk and husband Russell of Murphy; sisters, Eunice Johnson and Barbara Anderson; six granddaughters, Michelle Hayes and husband Hank, Amy Brendle and husband Matt, Billie Joe Stiles, Nicole Hunt and husband Bill, Brittany Barnes and husband Greg and Savannah Ware and husband Barrett; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Vicky Stiles Jenkins and special friend Winnie Galloway.

KathyJo Denison Roper, age 60, of Andrews, NC passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 at her residence.

She was a native of Hiawatha, Kansas and the daughter of the late James Mylon Denison and Rosalie Maxine Kline Denison of Andrews, NC. KathyJo was the former owner and operator of Ropers Store. They moved from Columbia, SC to the Andrews area in 1987. KathyJo was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Joe Crawford and Robert Dewight Martin.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Ray Roper; two sons, Justin Christopher Horton and his wife Tiffany and Daniel Lee Vaughn and his wife Cortny all of Andrews; a brother, Henry Bruce Denison of Shreveport, LA: two sisters, Jackie Rene Mills of Rockledge, FL and Tookea Trudy Mane Lynn of Morrill, KS; and one grandson, James Edward Tate Horton; and granddaughter, Kathrina Joetta Horton.
