Dan Johnson Jr., 72, of Hayesville passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 in a Murphy care facility. He was a native of Marion, South Carolina and lived in Washington D.C. and Asheville, North Carolina before moving to Hayesville a year ago. Dan was a retired employee of Mack Johnson Construction Company in Washington D.C. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was the son of the late Dan and Queenie Johnson.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicky of Washington D.C. and Searra of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two sons, Lorenzo of Delray Beach, Florida and James of Hayesville; five sisters, Lillian Streets of Lancaster, North Carolina, Janie Mae Freeman, Trisha Johnson, and Wanda Nichols, all of Marion, South Carolina, and Jackie Johnson of Washington D.C.; two brothers, Robert Johnson of Brooklyn, New York and Mack Johnson of Washington D.C.; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
There was an Electrical Storm in Murphy Friday Night

As the clouds made their way towards the stadium, so did the die hard Murphy Bulldog family. An hour before the game the seats started to fill, the atmosphere started to gain more, and more power.
20 minutes before kick-off, the “Youth Dogs”, the younger Bulldogs, were on the field awaiting their champions, the clouds began to scatter, yet the Thunder remained, the thunderous 12th man were ready for a battle against the Bobcats of Gilmer. The starters were announced, and the lightning was unleashed.
The Gilmer Bobcats won the coin toss and that was all they were going to win on this glorious evening under the bright Friday Night Lights on David Gentry field. Bobcats defer, game on. The stage has been set, Gilmer kicks the ball to Murphy, and so it has begun.
“Captain” Curry, play-action fake, looks right, looks left, the electricity in his arm gathers strength, he reaches back, and fires a lighting bolt pass 30-yards down the field to his wide-receiver Travis “The Atlantic Lighting” Seabolt racing down the sideline, he catches the pass with both hands, taking it in for a 58-yard touchdown reception! “Miss Automatic” Katelyn Jones misses the extra point, shrugs it off, Dogs up 6-zip two plays in to the game.
They say lighting doesn’t strike the same spot twice, they were wrong! The thunderous 12th man exploded as “Captain” Curry found “The Atlantic Lighting” Seabolt for their second connection of the game. The atmosphere is electric, the Bulldogs are running on a fully charged mega-battery not of this world. Jones forces the pig skin through the uprights, bringing us to a 13-0 Bulldogs early 1st quarter lead. 
The Murphy Bulldogs defense was in complete control of the Gilmer offense. After forcing the Bobcats to punt the football, Murphy marches down the field into the Bobcats redzone. “It’s not marble, it’s Slade” McTaggart gets the ball, hits the hole, breaks it outside, and bolts into the endzone from 16-yards out leaving the Bobcats in a cloud of static electricity and disbelief. Bulldogs go up by 20 still in the 1st quarter of play.
The combination of a lightning fast football team, and a thunderous 12th man leads to mistakes, Gilmer fumbles, and Bulldog Cory “Mad Cow” Farmer recovers the ball for a Bulldogs, first down! Threatening from just inside the redzone, Kadrian McRae electromagnetically teleports himself into the endzone, if you blinked, you missed him. 20-yard rushing touchdown for McRae, get that man a sandwich!
They were giving out lighting bolts for lunch at Murphy High School on Friday, clearly McRae had seconds, McRae strikes again, cuts right, turns up field, holds down the turbo boost button, and he was gone. 23-yards and 1.5 seconds later he was in for 6. “Miss Automatic” Jones hits the extra point, it’s 34-0 Bulldogs and it’s not even halftime yet. Get Gilmer some electrical tape for their gloves, Bulldogs are shocking.
The offensive line was a hurricane force thunderstorm Friday night, and the Bobcats had no choice but to seek shelter. Devonte “Show me the Murray” Murray, behind #HurricaneOffensiveLine, tidal waves it in from 23-yards out with ease to put the dogs up 41-0 after the successful extra point try by Jones.
More Bulldogs defense causing all kinds of problems for the Bobcats, Bulldogs get the ball back, and “it’s not marble, it’s Slade” McTaggart rumbles his way in from 15 yards out, boarding up the last of Gilmer’s windows. We hope the Bobcats have plenty of water and canned goods for the ride home, this Bulldogs Thunderstorm was too much for the Bobcats. The Bulldogs send in the pups to wrap up the second half, and that would be the final score of the game.
Smokey Mountain Conference play starts next week with Robbinsville coming to town this Friday.
Expect more of the same intensity, if not more, out of the Bulldogs this Friday. They have been a team possessed since their heartbreaking loss in Franklin a few weeks ago.
Curry is ready to throw the football through a mountain, and McTaggart would tackle a tornado if he had to. Check the voltage meter on the field the last two games played by the Murphy Bulldogs, the reading is off the charts!

David Wayne Ledford, Jr., age 45 of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his home. Mr. Ledford was born April 2, 1972 in Copperhill, TN to the late David Wayne Ledford, Sr. and Phyllis Newman Ledford Parrish. A member of Ranger Baptist Church, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in his spare time.
Survivors include: wife, Rebecca Ledford, mother, Phyllis Parrish, daughter, Courtney Love Parrish, daughter, Alexis Ledford, son, Gage Ledford, two brothers, Jason Parrish and Derrick Ledford and one grandchild, Sage Szuchon.
The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5-8 pm.

Arthur “Bud” Stiffler, Jr., age 78, of Marble, died Friday, October 7, 2016 in Murphy Medical Center. He was a native of Commodore, Pennsylvania, but had lived in Cleveland, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida before moving to Cherokee County in 1999. Bud was a carpenter, and worked as a reserve officer with the Sarasota, Florida Police Department for fifteen years. After moving here, he worked as a custodian with the Cherokee County School System. Bud was a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret Guidash Stiffler.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-six years, Marsha L. Theis Stiffler; a son, John Michael Stiffler and wife, Wanda of Sarasota, Florida; four daughters, Robin Lynn Grubbs and husband, Keith of St. Louis, Missouri; Dawn Ann Brazier and husband, David of Castle Rock, Colorado; Kelly Denise Meyer of Sarasota, Florida; and Teri Lee Ryan and husband, Allen of Augusta, Georgia; a brother, Rev.(R) Lester Wayne “Sonny” Stiffler and wife, Mildred of Altoona, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Private family services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Arthur Stiffler, Jr. to: Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 1650 NC Hwy 141, Murphy, NC 28906.

Mr. James Aubrey Revis, Jr. : Obituary

James Aubrey Revis, Jr., age 78, of Marble, NC passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late James Aubrey Revis, Sr. and Tommie Mills Revis. James was a supervisor in constructing dams. He was a member of the Marble Springs Masonic Lodge #439. James was a 32nd Degree Shriner. He was also a member of the Scottish Rites and York Rite Masonry. James was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Mull Revis; two sons, Chris Revis of Marble and Paul Revis of Andrews; two daughters, Regina Holloway of Andrews and Teresa Simmons of Young Harris, GA; three sisters, Betty Newton of Marble, Becky Palmer of Murphy and Peggy Dills of Bessemer City, NC; four grandchildren, Case Revis, Brian Revis, Faith Ann Revis and Jason Holloway and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Charles Shelton will officiate. Burial will be in the Moss Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites being conducted by Marble Springs Masonic Lodge #439. Pallbearers will be members of the Marble Springs Masonic Lodge #439: Chris Revis, Joel Pack, Bobby Welch, Greg Huskins, Greg Alred and Charlie McHan.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.

Mr. Robert Cecil Conley, Jr. : Obituary

Robert Cecil Conley, Jr. (Bobby) age 40 of Murphy, NC passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 in the Murphy Medical Center. A member of the Little Brasstown Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Joe and Edna Conley. Bobby was loved by all who knew him. He loved helping others. Family was very important to him especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Doris Adams of Vengeance Creek Community, father and his wife Robert and Cassey Conley of Murphy, mother and her husband, Linda and WG Mack of the Peachtree Community, two brothers and two sisters, Russell Conley and Crystal Leatherwood of the Peachtree Community, Cody Bullers and wife Nicole of Murphy, Jessie Shiver and husband Anthony of Marble, and Tonya Mack of Georgia, three children, Matthew, Josh and Dalton, and one grandson, Lane Taylor. Also surviving are special friends, Kerri Slade, her children and grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Cochran Funeral Home in Peachtree with Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Vengeance Creek Cemetery in Marble, NC. The gentlemen serving as Pallbearers will be Russell Conley, Matthew Danielson, Josh Danielson, Cody Bullers, Steven Slade and Dalton Slade. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anthony Shiver, Hunter Slade, Jason Fox and Jason Hall.
The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 2-4 pm.
