Bobby Gerald Peters, age 89 of Hayesville, NC passed Saturday, December 28, 2019. He was born in Virginia to the late Barney E. Peters and Ida M. Mullins Peters. Bobby worked for the U.S. Government as a communication specialist and was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Christ the King Church in Hiawassee, GA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Ann Peters; son, Gerald E. Peters and wife Charlotte; daughters, Katherine Washington and husband Rickey, Julie Davis, Teresa Peters and husband John Beisner and Anita Peters and Ricky Wood; brothers, Harold, Doyle, Carl and Clyde Peters; sisters, Billie Gabriele, Cleo Levan, Mildred Carroll, Jeannie Williams and Joy Adkins; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm, Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Rev. Don O’Malley will officiate. The internment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites being conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, NC, the Marine Corp League Marble, NC, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

The family will receive friends from 10 am-12 pm, Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville.

Carolyn Baine: Obituary

Carolyn Baine, age 77, of Rocky Face, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020.

She was born on July 30, 1942. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Elsie Lee Nicholson; grandson, Jason Baine; brothers, Gilbert Nicholson, Dennis Nicholson, Roger Nicholson; sisters, Lois Ware and Debbie Barnette.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Baine of Rocky Face; sons, Harold Baine of Rocky Face, Leon Baine of Rocky Face; daughters and son in law, Janet Wheeler of Cave Springs, Sheryl and Bennie Andrews of Cartersville; sisters and brother in law, Alice and Bobby Griffith of Turtletown, TN, Rita Eskew of Conyers; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Carolyn Baine will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 6, 2020 at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Pastor James Ellis and Pastor JR Williams officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Liberty, NC.

The family will be receiving friends for visitation from 5-8 PM Sunday evening. John Baine, Nathan Baine, Matt Baine and Justin Bartley will be serving as pallbearers.

RL Passmore, age 94 of Andrews passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at his residence.

He was born in Franklin, NC to the late Roy and Martha Passmore. RL was a member of Valleytown Baptist Church. He was most recognized as “The SnoKone Man”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Dora Lee Passmore; daughter, Kathy West; brothers, Fred, Grover, Robert and Claude and sisters, Nina and Louise.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Payne and husband Jeff; sister, Rosaline Bingham and grandchildren, Jacob Payne, Kyndra West and husband Devin, Tim West, Darla West and Angela Kerr.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm, Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews.

Lenora Lulean Innis, age 97 of Hayesville, NC passed away Thursday, December 31, 2019.

She was born in Tallassee, Alabama to the late Jesse and Ola Simmons McHargue. Lenora was active in the V.F.W. and active in the “Eagles”. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Douglas, Walter and James McHargue; and sisters, Lila Mae Price and Clyde Harris.

She is survived by her son, Tom Hall; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, January 6, 2019 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Tallassee, Alabama.

Gene Griggs: Obituary

Gene Griggs, 87, of Marble passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 in a Robbinsville care facility. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Gene was employed with Baker Furniture, retiring in 1997 after 31 years. Gene coached little league baseball in Cherokee County for many years. He was a member of Marble Springs Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. Gene enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

He was the son of the late Ulysses Grant and Emma Jane Crisp Griggs and the husband of the late Lois Ann Raxter Griggs, who died February 22, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Colt Griggs; two sisters, Frances Carroll and Pearl Griggs; and three brothers, Marcell, Vincent, and Porter Griggs.

Surviving are a son, Donny Griggs and wife, April of Andrews; two sisters, Mae Coffey and Linda Parsons, both of Gastonia, North Carolina; three brothers, Charles Griggs of High Point, North Carolina, Junior Griggs of Gastonia, and Robert Griggs of Murphy; two granddaughters, Allie Griggs and fiancé, Jordon Mathis, and Erika Griggs, all of Andrews; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 in Marble Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Bernie Dixon and John Bailey officiating. The interment will be in Moss Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Howard Coffey, Dick Brown, Mike Erwin, Mike Hunsucker, Danny Crooke, and Jeff Rowland.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:45 Saturday morning at the Marble Springs Baptist Church prior to the services.

Mildred Maggie Gibson Gentry: Obituary

Mildred Maggie Gibson Gentry, 88, of Murphy passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019 in an Union County, Georgia hospital. She was a native of Gum Log, Georgia, but lived in Jackson, South Carolina before retiring to Murphy with her husband in the mid 1980s. Mildred worked as a teacher and taught at several schools in North Georgia, but most of her career took place teaching at Martinez Elementary School in Georgia. She was a very active member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church. Mildred enjoyed many things and excelled at cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, and canning.

She was the daughter of the late Isaac Henry and Pleshia Arilla Chastain Gibson and the wife of the late John Benjamin Gentry, who died July 1, 2015. She was the last of 12 siblings.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Gladys O’Dell of Knoxville, Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. The interment will be in Many Forks Cemetery in Young Harris, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Paul Richards, Matthew Smith, Marvin, Roy, Ronald, and Melvin Gibson.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.

Jeanne Marie Burton: Obituary

Jeanne Marie Burton, 73, of Murphy was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 24, 2019. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, but raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from a young age. Jeanne later moved to Murphy in 1993, where she worked as a substitute teacher for Cherokee County Schools. She was a very involved teacher and took pride in her students. She was a past member of the Ranger Methodist Church and a current member of Shepherd of the Mountains. Jeanne enjoyed singing in the choir and served as a member of Mountain Top Emmaus. Jeanne loved her animals, her children, and her husband. She put her family first in all things.

She was the daughter of the late Earl Howard and Mary Olga Cicci Burge. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Ray Burge and a half-sister, Joanne Nosar.

Surviving are her husband, Fred W. Burton; a daughter, Kathryn Skyles of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Glenn Skyles of Atlanta; a niece, Nancy Schneider and a nephew, David Schneider.

A Celebration of Life was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 at the Shepherd of the Mountains with the Revs. Chris West and Al Beck officiating.

The family received friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Jerry was the son of the late Doyle Robert Day and Fannie Lou Martin Day. He worked for Vulcan materials as a heavy equipment operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Day and sister, Molly McDowell.

He is survived by his brother, Colin Day; sisters, Barbara Thomas, Gladys Gegan and Rita Etters; step-sons, Brian E Greene, Sr and Terry L Greene and 10 grandchildren.

She was born in Clay County, NC to the late Verlin and Zelpha Ledford Davenport. Mary was family oriented and full of joy and laughter. She was a loving, outspoken sister and mother.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Davenport and Magdalene Jones.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Conner and John Taylor; four brothers, Daniel, Monroe, Carl and Marvin Davenport; two sisters, Barbara Taylor and Frankie Patterson; four grandchildren and four nieces.

Charles “Chucky” Hoyt Barton, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at his residence in Andrews, NC.

He was born in Andrews, NC to the late Gary and Kaye Barton and also preceded in death by his beloved grandpa “Pop”, and his best dog friend Bitty.Chucky was an avid hunter and fisherman; his special hunting buddies were Mike Curtis, Chuck Baldwin, Kevin Baldwin, Scott Baldwin, Lester White, Jeff Mashburn, Mike Mashburn, Jeff Jones, Kenny Clark and Scotty Baker.

He is survived by his sister, Cathy Barton Knox and boyfriend, Thomas West of the Peachtree community; one nephew, Dallas Knox; Uncles, Ronnie Barton, Grant Barton, Willard Enloe and Harold Enloe; Aunts, Linda Hughes and Darlene Breedlove; several nieces and nephews, Renee Trout, Robin Walker and Mandy Patterson; and former wife, Wanda Mathison. He will be missed by many lifelong friends, hunting buddies, and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held 7 pm, Monday, December 23, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. Rev. Scott Cole will officiate.

He was born in Eugene, Oregon to the late Donald and Helen Birran. Dennis retired from the US Air Force after 21 years of service. Dennis worked as a video photographer in Virginia Beach, VA. He loved to shoot guns.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Emily Birran; two stepdaughters, Sylvia and Barbara; and three step-grandchildren.

He was born in Towns County, GA to the late Jerry and Sharon Chastain Reynolds. Darrell worked for Vulcan. He was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Amanda Reynolds.

He is survived by one daughter, Lela Reynolds; and one brother, Jamie Reynolds.

Velma Phillips, age 92, of Murphy passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at her residence.

She was born in Haywood County, NC. Velma lived most of her life in Cherokee County, NC. She was a daughter of the late Clearcy Brown and step father William Brown. Velma was a member of Little Glade Baptist Church.

In addition, to her mother and stepfather, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Phillips and sisters, Carolyn Sue Clark, Sadie McGaha and Corrine Mahaffey.

Surviving are her sons, Troy Phillips and wife Cathy and Kenny Phillips and wife Freda; sister, Charlotte “Cricket” Carwile; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Pastor Hoyt Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Martins Creek Cemetery. Ryan Wayne Clark: Obituary

Ryan Wayne Clark, 24, of Andrews passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in a Chattanooga, Tennessee hospital. He was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, but lived in Andrews since the age of five. Ryan was a talented football player and played from youth leagues through his senior year at Andrews High School. He was a 2013 graduate of Andrews High School. Ryan loved working in lawn service and had also worked as a plumber and an installer in the propane industry. Ryan received his welding degree from Tri-County Community College. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, four wheelers, and about anything that got him outside. Ryan was an easy-going person who always had a smile on his face and remained calm and laid back in all situations. Ryan was very kind-hearted and would do anything for someone in need. He had a love for all animals.

He was the son of Steven Wayne and Carolyn Mueller Clark.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his girlfriend, Zoe Drake, who was a major part of his life. Also surviving are the maternal grandparents, Sue and Buzzy Mueller of Andrews; the paternal grandparents, Dana Queen of Diamondhead, Hawaii, and James Clark and wife, Pat of Mesa, Arizona; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family received friends from 1-3 Saturday afternoon, December 21, 2019 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.
