Genevieve Reynolds Hogsed: Obituary
Obituaries September 8, 2015
Genevieve Reynolds Hogsed, 87, of Hayesville passed away in her sleep Wednesday morning, September 9, 2015. Born September 14, 1927, she was a resident of the Shooting Creek area throughout her life. She was a member of the Shooting Creek Baptist Church, but attended Mission Hill Baptist Church with her family until her later years. Genevieve spent her years taking care of her family, cherishing the time she spent with her grandkids and always providing them with a warm and loving home filled with happiness. She was an avid gardener with a real “green thumb” with both vegetable and flowers. She had a great love for reading and cooking, traits that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. In her last years, her granddaughter, Kristy Shook, and her family moved in and cared for her once she was bedridden allowing her wish to remain in her own home during her final years to be possible. Genevieve was a sweet and loving woman who became special to all those who knew her. She will be greatly missed, but she is residing with our Lord in Heaven, and we will see her again someday.
She was the daughter of the late Harley and Leah Bell Reynolds and the wife of the late Morris Hogsed, who died November 1, 2000. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; three brothers; and a grandson, Jamie Rogers.
Surviving are four daughters, Winifred “Inky” Rogers and husband, Jimmy, Shirley Eller and husband, Jerry Lee, Kathy McConnell and husband, Stanley, and Jackie Coffey and husband, Ronnie, all of Hayesville; and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 11, 2015 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Tom Gragg officiating. The interment will be in the Old Shooting Creek Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Hogsed and Adam Shook.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Friday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Genevieve Reynolds Hogsed to the Old Shooting Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Phyllis Leslie, 10 Cheetah Lane, Hayesville, NC 28904.
