Wayne Hamby, age 75, of Woodstock, Georgia and formerly of Murphy, NC passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Wellstar Hospice in Marietta, Georgia.

He was a native of Cherokee County and the son of the late Readel and Bonnie Guthrie Hamby. Wayne was a retired Iron worker. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son; brothers, Kenneth, Leonard, Elec and William Hamby; and sisters Juanita Shelton, Regina Stiles, and Kay Hamby.

He is survived by two sons, Darrell Hamby and wife Stephanie of Marietta, Georgia and Jeff Hamby of Cherokee County, Georgia; two brothers, Carroll Hamby and wife Margaret of Emerson, Georgia and Daniel Hamby and wife Ramona of Murphy, NC; sisters, Betty Joe Beavers and husband Jerry of Blairsville, Georgia, Lucille Ware and husband Terry of Murphy, NC; one granddaughter, Krystal of Texas; several great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Harold Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenny Hamby, Johnny Hamby, Jerry Beavers, Dennis Jackson, Russell Loudermilk and Nick Hibberts. Honorary pallbearer will be Claude Stiles.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 150 Oak Grove Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
