Bulldogs Get Big Win Over Rival Hayesville

Friday night had the Bulldogs of Murphy High School travel over to Hayesville to hit the field against one of their biggest rivals. With Coach David Gentry inching ever so close to a historical 400th win the Bulldogs left no doubts in the minds that they were there to play.
Sitting perfect in conference play and dominating opponents the Murphy football program has had an outstanding season in 2018. Murphy has put an astonishing 238 points with an average of 34 per game on 1909 rushing yards and 567 passing. Coach Gentry has his team firing on all cylinders. The game at Hayesville held true to form as the offense put up 49 points with 36 of those in the first quarter. Once again Micah Nelson marched his fellow Bulldogs up and down the field at will. Nelson was 2 of 4 in passing with 91 yards. Christian Gentry and Kyle Wright were the work horses on the night with a combined 98 yards on 15 total carries. K.J. Allen led the team in rushing yards on just 3 carries with 70 yards(23.3 average YPC). The 7 ball handlers for the Bulldogs totaled 256 yards on 26 attempts.
The Scoring for the Bulldogs came almost complete;y in the 1st quarter. Pushing the ball across the goal line for Murphy were K.J. Allen(2 TD)66 yrds and 1 yrd, Devonte Murray(2 TD) 14 yrds and 4 yrds, Barron Srabian(36 yards). Slade McTaggert(5 yard TD and a 2 point conversion), and Justice Dorsey scored from 40 yards. Defensively the Bulldogs shut down the Hayesville allowing just 154 yards of total offense. Hayesville had 1 turnover in the game with Murphy keeping to ball secure for 4 quarters.
With the Bulldogs dominating 49-7 win on Friday night they will practice hard and this week and be ready for Swain Co. at home this week.
