Traffic stop results in drug arrest in Andrews

MURPHY, Nc – Sheriff Derrick Palmer of the Cherokee County North Carolina Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported the Jan. 15, 2020 arrest of 34-year-old Murphy man Andrew Westrom Brittain for violations of the drug laws of North Carolina.

Investigators were in the Andrews, Nc, conducting a continuing investigation into individuals illegally possessing controlled substances. A vehicle occupied by Brittain was observed and found to not have current liability insurance. Upon conducting a traffic stop and an suspected drug alert by a Cherokee Tribal Police Department K9, the vehicle was searched and a quantity of methamphetamine and a handgun were seized.

Andrew Brittain was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was charged with possess methamphetamine and carrying concealed gun. The North Carolina Magistrate set a $ 7,500.00 secure bond.
