Traffic stop leads to three arrested

The Cherokee County Sherriff’s Office made 3 arrest after a routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust on Jan. 27, 2022.

Detective Payne and Myers, deputies of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, were parked near Hembree road when they observed a maroon Honda Pilot coming off Hembree Rd. onto James Rd. ‘rolling the stop sign’ and then turning onto Joe Brown Hwy. after not coming to a complete stop, according to the arrest report.

The detectives then turned on their emergency equipment and pursued the vehicle onto Texana Rd. where the vehicle pulled over to a complete stop.

When Detective Payne approached the vehicle, he noticed the passenger was moving around a lot and reaching into the center console, according to the report.

Payne instructed the driver, Michael Strickland, to exit the vehicle after noticing his nervous demeanor.

After exiting the vehicle, Payne notice a syringe with ‘brown liquid’ in the driver’s seat.

Strickland was then placed in handcuffs while they searched the rest of the car.

The two passengers, Robert Kennedy and Breanna Rodriguez, were also removed from the car.

Payne opened Strickland’s wallet and found a one-dollar bill with a clear crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Payne then looked in the console where Kennedy had earlier been fidgeting with and found three small baggies, two tested positive for heroin.

The backseat was then searched where Breanna Rodriguez had been sitting.

Multiple articles of drug paraphernalia were found, including scaled with the name ‘Bre’ written on them.

All 3 individuals were then arrested and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center for Booking.

When they arrived at the detention center, Rodriguez notified a correction officer that she had tried to hide a bag of methamphetamine in a body cavity, according to the report.

Upon examination, she had hide four baggies, one of methamphetamine, one heroin and the other two were residue, in a body cavity.

Kennedy had outstanding warrants and Rodriguez was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance on a jail/prison premises.

They were all charged with possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver heroin.
