“I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent the values and priorities of our community, and that starts with listening to its residents.”GAINESVILLE, Ga.—Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) is holding a town hall meeting in Gainesville this Wednesday.

“Washington needs to hear the voice of northeast Georgia, and I’m looking forward to continuing conversations with neighbors this week.

“Whether I’m working for rural broadband access, fighting for criminal justice reform or advocating for local residents in the face of federal bureaucracy, I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent the values and priorities of our community, and that starts with listening to its residents,” said Collins.

Collins will also update residents on the progress being made by the unified government led by President Trump. Since January, the American economy has added more than one million new jobs. Congress and the White House have eliminated billions of dollars in regulatory burdens and are working together on comprehensive tax reform.

All Ninth District residents are welcome, and details are below.

Background: Collins has held public meetings over the August district work period every year that he has served as the U.S. Representative for the Ninth District of Georgia.

In addition to holding public meetings over this period, Collins welcomes residents to join him for interactive telephone town hall conversations regularly while Congress is in session. Thousands of residents from across the twenty counties of northeast Georgia participate in these interactive events, and Collins has held six telephone town halls this year.

Collins Supports Appropriations Plan to Elevate Conservative Priorities

WASHINGTON—Congressman Doug Collins (R-Gainesville) has voiced his support for a plan that would allow Republicans to move 12 individual bills through the committee process before August and elevate conservative priorities in the budget for FY 2018.

Introduced by Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ranger), the approach to funding the government emphasizes regular order and efficiency in the budget process leading up to the start of the fiscal year on October 1. Once Members of the House have marked up the individual bills, these would be brought to the floor as a package that the House could vote on before August recess, giving the Senate and House a chance to reach a funding agreement before September 30.

This plan also allows the House to pass the legislation with the Republican majority, meaning that conservatives could include priorities like funding the president’s border wall without being hamstrung by resistance from across the aisle.

“This plan is ambitious, and we know that. Conservatives have a responsibility to fund the government wisely, and the Constitution tells us that that process starts in the House. We have the ability to send a commonsense budget to the Senate ahead of the deadline, and I hope to see my colleagues take advantage of this opportunity,” said Collins.

Collins, Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, commended this plan to fellow Republicans at a recent Conference meeting, and it has gained support among appropriators and other Representatives.

GA 9th District Congressman Collins (R) Interview on the new Tax Bill and its passing

Georgia’s 9th District Congressman Doug Collins joined us for a brief phone interview this morning. He started out the interview by saying today is going to be a good day and a good day for the American people. The new Tax Bill should be on the President’s desk by the end of the week, Collins said. This new bill will do away with the Obamacare/health insurance mandate. The American people will no longer be “forced” to purchase health insurance. BKP went on to ask Collins about topics such as the government funding, a possible spending resolution, Russian dossier on going investigation, and a possible 2nd council. Collins finished the interview with a comment about President Trump’s National Security speech. “We have a world that is unstable but a leader who wants to keep America safe and keep our leadership in the world.” As always we would like to thank Congressman Collins for taking time to speak with us.

Ga 9th District Congressman Collins on Tax Reform passed in the House

Congressman Collins had the privilege to gavel in the passing of the Tax Reform Bill. The bill passed in the House on Nov. 16 with 227 votes. Of the 227 votes, there were absolutely no Democrat supporters on this bill. Collins says the passing of this bill strictly by Republican votes shows that Republicans can come together to get the 218, or over 218, requirement. This tax plan is designed to give people a tax break; to put money back into their pockets, but doing so in a way that will stimulate the economy for small businesses.

Paul Broun responds to Doug Collins Radio Attack Ad

Congressman Doug Collins, Representative from the 9th District in Georgia,  is wasting no time going after his opponent, Dr. Paul Broun, former Representative from the 10th District.

Broun, along with Roger Fitzpatrick, Bernie Fontaine, and Mike Scupin, has announced his candidacy challenging Collins in the 9th District congressional race.  Collins has not acknowledged the other candidates but his campaign released a scorching radio ad about Paul Broun.

Below is part of the transcript from the ad posted by the AJC:

Collins: “I’m Doug Collins and I approve this message….”

 

Narrator: “Career politician Paul Broun. Former congressman Broun’s hypocrisy is bad, but Paul Broun’s repeated abuse of the taxpayers’ money is even worse.

 

“Paul Broun claims to be an outsider. But Paul Broun’s been on the ballot 12 times in 26 years for six different political positions. He’s so desperate to further his political career, Broun’s now campaigning for Congress in a district he doesn’t even live in.

 

“While Paul Broun’s hypocrisy knows no bounds, Broun’s abuse of taxpayer’s money is even worse. In Congress, Broun nearly bankrupted his office budget with an excessive amount of taxpayer-funded mail.And now, former congressman Paul Broun is under a federal criminal investigation into his use of taxpayer money to aid his failed U.S. Senate campaign.

 

“Career politician Paul Broun’s hypocrisy is bad, but Paul Broun’s abuse of the taxpayers’ money is even worse.”

Broun made the following statement to FetchYourNews.com concerning the attack radio ad from the Collins Campaign:

The ad is false! I’m a doctor, not a career politician. I have never misused government funds. I am not and have not to my knowledge ever been under a criminal investigation. I would expect a Southern Baptist preacher not to do this (ad). The last time I checked God’s Ten Commandments are still in effect. The 9th says Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Maybe God told Mr Collins that The Big 10 don’t apply to him or his campaign.

Since both Dr. Paul Broun and Congressman Doug Collins are Christians it will be interesting to see how much religious mud will be slung during this campaign.
