John Carl Green, 86, of Brasstown, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018, at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Carl was born December 14, 1931, in Blairsville Georgia. He was a
member of First United Methodist Church of Murphy but had attended Little Brasstown Baptist Church for the last 22 years. He was a founding member and longtime supporter of the Brasstown Fire Dept. Carl enjoyed music and played his fiddle and mandolin with several local bands. He also
enjoyed working with heavy equipment but was most known for owning and
operating Green’s Gulf Station in Brasstown for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Willie, Robert, and Dale Green and two sisters, Julia Caylor and Vesta Dyer.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty years, Shirley Huskins Green,
one son, Jerry Green and wife Vicki of Brasstown, NC, their two sons,
Cody Green of Carrboro, NC and Corey Green of Waynesville, NC, one step-daughter, Tammy Smith and husband Richard and their three children,
Christina, Brad, and Amanda, also three great-grandchildren, all of Atlanta, Georgia.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 2nd from 6-8:30 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, December 3rd at 2 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Aud Brown of Little Brasstown Church officiating with the help of Harold Stiles. Music provided by the Wilson Family.
The immediate family will be present for a graveside service with military honors. Military honors provided by the Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, and Clay County VFW Post 6812.

She is survived by four daughters, Debbie Ann Crowe, Carolyn Morrow, Linda Morrow and Gail Baker; two sisters, Faye Guffey and Katherine Duckworth; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Ralph Barnard and Rev. Calvin Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in the New Martins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Eldon Morrow, age 76 of Andrews, NC passed away Friday, November 16, 2018 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Lloyd and Alice Graves Morrow. Eldon retired from Baker’s Furniture. He loved the Atlanta Braves, Jimmy Johnson and he never missed a NASCAR race. Eldon loved cheeseburgers from the Burger Basket and eating ice cream but more than anything he loved his girls and Cooper.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clinton, Ralph, Ray and infant brother Robert Morrow; and sisters, Hazel Morrow Reid and Dorothy “Tootsie” Fralick.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melba “Snookie” Morrow; one daughter, Laynette Morrow; four brothers, Glen Morrow and wife Jo of Farner, TN, Howard Morrow and wife Margaret of Blue Ridge, GA, Donnie Morrow and wife Lisa of Copperhill, TN and Kenny Morrow of Turtletown, TN; sister, Pauline Morrow Cain of Farner, TN; grandchildren, Chanteah Jordan, Ciara Payne Gillespie and husband Colin; two great-grandchildren, Cooper Orr and Nevaeh Gillespie; and over one hundred nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the Red Marble Baptist Church in Andrews. Rev. Paul Ray Morgan and Rev. Mickey Stewart will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm.
Pallbearers will be David Allen, Brandon Allen, RL Jordan, Justin Derreberry, Lonnie Postell, Steve West and Kevin Bickley.

Tom grew up and attended school in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He joined the Air Force in 1957 with basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. During part of his service he was briefly on the island of Eniwetok during the testing of Atomic Bombs.
Tom and his wife Shirley of 59 years were married on August 16, 1959 in Chillicothe, Missouri. They have two children, Paul of Hayesville, NC and Jill Chouvelon and husband and children of Boston, MA; five grandchildren, Laurie Beal of St Louis, MO, Brook and Bryce Hudson of San Diego, CA and Alexander and Jonathan Chouvelon of Boston; great grandchildren, Coletin, Landon, Rylie and Jadynn Beal of St Louis.
Tom and Shirley enjoyed taking trips in their travel trailer after retirement and square dancing until Tom’s health forced them to give that up. Even though he was in failing health, he could be seen regularly mowing his grass on the tractor. Tom loved life and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.

She was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Frank Boyd and Hazel Pearl Myers Chance. She was a graduate of Hayesville High School. Patricia was employed with Levi Strauss & Company for 25 years. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church for 22 years. Patricia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Michael David Garrett; and one step grandson, Jonah Blake Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Johnson; two step-sons, Keith Johnson (Crissy) of Aiken, SC and Mark Johnson (Melissa) of Murphy, NC; one step-grandson, Daniel Johnson (Carleigh) of Chapel Hill, NC; one granddaughter, Samantha Garrett of Murphy, NC; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Sandy Vance and husband Jim of Murphy, NC and Larry Chance of Canton, GA. .
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Rev. Edward Carter and Dr. Eddis Dockery will officiate.

Richard Nosti: Obituary
Obituaries November 1, 2018
Richard Nosti of Hayesville passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Although he was a native Floridian, he considered Hayesville, North Carolina his second home from the moment he and his wife, Sara Nosti, retired to the mountains in 1988.
Richard graduated from the Plant High School in South Tampa, Florida and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon returning from the Navy, he married Sara Parrish and started a family, eventually welcoming Carol Swain, Diana Jo, Martha Sue, and Jennie Lou to their small family. In life, he was fond of saying that he was surrounded by women, that even the goldfish, cats, dogs, and hamster were ladies. So, it is only fitting that he had four granddaughters as well as daughters, Sara Worsham, Shana Worsham, Jessica Gentry, and Andrea Suarez.
Richard was the son of the late Manuel and Josephine Pickett Nosti and the husband of the late Sara Nosti. He was also preceded in death by his daughters, Carol Nosti and Martha Monaldi; his siblings, Harold Nosti and Eugennie Gibson; and his granddaughter, Shana Worsham.
Surviving are “his girls’, daughters, Diana Gentry and Jennie Shaver and husband, Buck; three granddaughters, Sara, Jessica, and Andrea Suarez and husband, Randy; two grandsons, Buddy Shaver and wife, Lizbeth and David Shaver and wife, Carolyn. Richard leaves behind many grieving friends and family, but we are comforted by knowing that while he is no longer with us, he has been reunited with his wife, Sara; daughters, Carol and Marti; and granddaughter, Shana; in addition to many lifelong friends.
There will be no funeral services at this time. However, a Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2019. His ashes, and the ashes of his beloved wife, will be scattered in Boca Grande Pass in Boca Grande, Florida at a later date. It is fitting that their final resting place will be together, in the waters off the island where they created a lifetime of memories.

Stella Mae Wright Mason, age 92 of Topton, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at a Jackson County hospital. She was a native and lifetime resident of Topton. Stella was a life long member of Red Marble Baptist Church. She loved to sing and sang for many years with the Red Marble Quartet and Trio. Stella was also a lifetime Yankees fan and also enjoyed watching Peyton Manning play.
She was the daughter of the late William Rush and Hassie Nichols Wright and the wife of the late Bob Mason, who died April 2, 1983. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Beatrice, Irene, Olive, Lorene, and Betty Lou and three brothers, Jack, John, and Clifton Wright.
Surviving are two daughters, Gaye C. Mathis and husband, Ricky of Topton and Teresa A. Mejia and husband, Chris of Olathe, Kansas; three sons, Hal Mason and wife, Nancy of Garner, North Carolina, Ronnie J. Mason and wife Jennilou of Topton, and Lanny R. Mason and wife Eloise of Topton; nine grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Evelyn Reighard and Debbie Wood for being special caregivers.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Red Marble Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Stewart and Rev. Donald Colvard officiating. The interment was in Red Marble Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Bateman, Mike Reighard, Roy, Tim, and David Wright, Ricky Postell, and Danny West. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Reighard, Alvin Wright, and Shane Laughter.
The family received friends from 1:00-2:45 p.m. Sunday, October 28th at Red Marble Baptist Church prior to the service.

Cline Hicks, 79, of Hayesville passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 at his residence. He was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. Cline was a graduate of Hayesville High School class of 1956. He worked in Atlanta briefly before returning to the area. Cline owned and operated Hick’s Service Station for 59 years in downtown Murphy. The service station also served as a local hangout where many good times were had. Cline enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved the outdoors. He was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Harley Robert and Farris Breedlove Hicks. He was also preceded in death by a son, Scott Hicks; and a long-term companion, Debi Brendle.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynn Lowdermilk and husband, Jeff of Asheville, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Shelby Smith of Asheville; four sisters, Doris McCray, Joyce Hogan, and Judy Logan and husband, Clay, all of Hayesville, and Carolyn Dills and husband, Bernell of Duluth, Georgia; a brother, Ray Hicks and wife, Gail of Hayesville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating. The interment will be in Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike, Jamie, Luke, and Coy Logan, Roger Gibson, Mark Ritz, Jimmy Robinson, and Roger West. Pearl Chumbley Price: Obituary

Pearl Chumbley Price, 88, of Murphy passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 in a Murphy care facility. She was a native of Cleveland, Ohio and had lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida before moving to Murphy in 1974. Pearl worked as a telephone operator for AT&T for several years. She was a member of the Murphy First United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer of the Helping Hands Program and sang in the choir. Pearl was also a member of the Joy Ringers handbell group.
She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Evelyn Cook Chumbley and the wife of the late Zack Stephen Price, who died May 13, 2013.
Surviving are her adopted children, Bob and Theresa Smith of Murphy; three sisters, Evelyn Addison and husband, Lonnie of Palm Bay, Florida, Janet Smith and husband, Robert of Tamarac, Florida, and Lorrain Kinsey and husband, Jerry of Atlantic Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the Murphy First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wil Posey officiating.

She was a native of Owen County, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Virgil and Kathleen Livengood. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling. Fay loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Parrish; son, Danny Parrish; sister, May Knight and brother, Morris Livengood.
She is survived by her daughter, Grace Blanton and husband David of Murphy; two sisters, Ginny Sutton of Collins, GA and Katie Bright of Guton, GA; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Roger James Berrong: Obituary

Roger James Berrong, age 82, passed away Friday morning, September 21, 2018 at his home.
He was born March 16, 1936 in Clay County, NC to the late Jesse Bon and Jessie Scroggs Berrong.
He attended Hayesville School and had to quit in the eighth grade to work. When he was 17, he went to Chicago, Illinois to work for 11 years before coming back to Clay County. He owned and operated the Sinclair Station in Murphy for 10 years. During this time he built and raced his own car #3 at Tri-County Raceway for three years. Red Skylar always called him Hard Luck Berrong in his articles in the Scout. After selling the station he went to work for Good Year in Murphy as the service manager for four years. He then went to work for Burch Motors as service manager for seven years. Roger then worked for the NC Department of Transportation as a mechanic for 19 years until his retirement in 1999. He raised gardens, worked in his shop and loved to sit on his porch. Roger was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and testifying his love for his Lord and Savior.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Evelyn Crisp Berrong; and two brothers, Terry and Ralph Berrong.
He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Queen and husband Robbie and Debbie Mills and husband Keith all of Hayesville, NC; one son, Brad Berrong and Laurie Terry of Murphy, NC; one sister, Carolyn Rogers of Hayesville, NC; three brothers, Don Berrong of Hayesville, NC, George Berrong of Powder Springs, GA and Johnny Berrong of the Bellview community; grandchildren, Blake Brooks, of Hayesville, NC, Tara Robinson of Hayesville, NC, Justin Berrong of Hayesville, NC, Jordan Berrong of Marble, NC, McKenzie Terry of Charlotte, NC and Cody Terry of Murphy, NC; and seven great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 30,, 2018 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Hayesville, NC. Rev. Aud Brown will officiate.

Austin “Dump” White, age 87 of Andrews, NC passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Erlanger Murphy Medical Center.
He was the son of the late McClain and Parlee Gibby White. Austin was a US Army veteran. He retired from the Nantahala Power after 34 years of service.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sons, Iran “Bo” White, Byran “Bimby” White and Philip White; brothers, Fred, Lester, Otis, Grover and Aaron White; and sisters, Willie Belle, Ellen and Christine.
He is survived by five grandchildren, Levi White and wife Misty, Heather Drennan and husband Michael, Amanda White, Shasta Martin and husband Jamie and Cody White, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. Randall Young will officiate. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Chastain, Lennie Cutshaw, Roger Dale Roberts, Matthew White, Landon White, Scottie Baker and Harold Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayden, Lauren and Caitlyn.

Mr. John Clayton “JC” Newton, age 74 of Marble, entered his heavenly home on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Newton was born August 22, 1944 in Murphy, NC to the late Lester Newton and the late Mary Ann Laney Newton. A member of Tomotla Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Crayton Newton and son, John Brian Newton. In his spare time, JC enjoyed farming, hunting, and going to livestock sales. He was an animal lover and he enjoyed taking them in and caring for them.
Survivors include loving wife of 53 years, Sallie Ruth Newton, son and daughter-in-law, John Steven and Mary Newton, brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Becky Newton, brother and sister-in-law, Therman and Jody Newton, sister and brother-in-law, Verdie and Joe Patterson, sister and brother-in-law, Annie Mae and Bobby Dockery, three grandchildren, Heather Newton, Greg Newton, and Michael Newton, and one great-grandchild, Little John Newton. Also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with the Rev. Mitchell Totherow officiating. Music provided by Regina Owens Delili and Mary Newton. Interment will follow in the Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Newton, Michael Newton, Jason Newton, Jack Newton, Bronson Newton, Heather Newton, Marty Cook and Terry Macky. Honorary pallbearer is Jamie Reynolds.
