Marie Ann Spivey, 57, of Hayesville, died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at her residence. She was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. Marie worked for Mohawk Industry and Clayco Corp. She also worked as a certified nursing assistant for Clay County Care Center. She was a member of Bible Missionary Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late James and Edna Cothern Patterson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Patterson; and two brothers, Allen and Butch Patterson.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Roger G. Spivey; four sisters, Lena Worley, Geneva Chastain, and Jerita Burch, all of Hayesville, and Marlene Bell of Warne; three brothers, Larry and Junior Patterson, both of Lavonia, Georgia, and Marshall Patterson of Hayesville; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Bethel Cemetery with the Rev. Doyce Waters officiating.

Jo Ann Garrett, age 73 of Hayesville, NC passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
She was a native of Swain County, NC and the daughter of the late Neal and Mae Anderson Burrell. Jo Ann was a homemaker and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Buford Garrett; three sons, Avery Garrett and wife Charlene of Blairsville, GA, Robert Garrett and wife Judy of Hayesville, NC and Roger Garrett and wife Beverly of Winder, GA; six brothers, three sisters, three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Rev. Charles Shelton will officiate. Burial will be in the Moss Memorial Church Cemetery in Hayesville. Pallbearers will be Phillip Gaddis, Neil Garrett, Christopher Lovell, Michael Lovell, John Demar and Hunter Demar.

, age 21 of Hayesville passed away on September 4, 2018.
Cullen was the son of Lucas William Davis and Lisa McLeod Davis. He was a graphic art designer and was a member of New Life Church of God in Hayesville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Vic and Linda Davis; maternal grandparents, Gene and Linda McLeod; brothers, Kyle Davis, Brett Nash and wife Jess and Randy Nash and wife Hope; sisters, Jamie Nash and Molly Ray Davis; aunts, Sherry McLeod and Vickie Whitmore and husband, Scott and uncle, Matt Davis and wife Jennifer.
A private family service will be held at a later day.

Sheldon Beaster: Obituary
Obituaries November 26, 201806/01/1939 – 11/24/2018
He joined the Army in 1956 at age 17 and soon found himself stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. In June of 1960, he saw a pretty girl on a ladder at the Alaska State Fair, and he made her, Leslie Landford, his bride just 2 months later. Their children were born in Anchorage, and the family moved to Leslie?s home state of Massachusetts in 1968.
Sheldon then went to work for Pickering Oil and rose to the position of Vice President of Sales after a few, short years. During this time, he restored a 36? cabin cruiser that he captained down the Merrimack River and into the Atlantic. Unfortunately, the Atlantic terrified his family. He, then, built a small sailboat that his children loved to sail with him on area lakes. Sheldon served as president of the PTA at South Hampton Elementary in New Hampshire where they lived. He also helped write and starred in the PTA?s fundraising comedy, ?Nuts and Butts.? Always the funny man, he and his cast mates brought down the house with laughter.
Following another dream, Sheldon and Leslie moved to New Sharon, Maine, in 1975 and purchased a 125 acre working veal farm. They enlarged the operation from 1 to 3 veal barns and were happy and successful farmers for 5 years before warmer climes called to them.
In 1981, the Beaster’s moved to Brandon, Florida, and Sheldon returned to the oil industry working for J.H. Williams Oil for 3 years. However, wanderlust set in, and after a vacation to western North Carolina, they settled in Murphy in 1984; Sheldon established S&L Auto Parts, which their son, Paul, now owns.
Sheldon never met a stranger and loved to entertain all with his stories and jokes. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; he will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister, and his infant son, Paul Wayne. He is survived by his sister, Beverly of Waukesha, WI; his wife, Leslie; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Chuck Allen of Franklin; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Tracy (Shields) of Murphy, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their children.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The family will receive friends from1-2 pm at the chapel. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post #96, D.A.V. Chapter #73, American Legion Post #532 of Hayesville and VFW Post #6812.

Talbert Arlon McClure, age 93 of Andrews, NC passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Valley View Care Center in Andrews.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Robert “Bob” and Lena Gibby McClure. Talbert was a farmer. He was a member of Junaluska Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Arvil McClure and three sisters, Willie Bell, Kathleen McClure and Dolly Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara McClure; and three nieces and four nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. Rev. Bo Phillips will officiate. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dee McClure, Ted McClure, Michael Carringer, Dwayne Carringer and Herman Hardin.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC to the late Clyde and Lena Goforth Helton. Edward was the owner and operator of Hillside Gift Shop. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Edward loved helping his neighbors.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by infant sister, Barbara Etta Helton; sister, Marjorie Coker; sister-in-law, Mary Zell Helton.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Annette Helton; two daughters, Wanda Anderson and husband Bill and Willena Helton all of Murphy; six brothers, James Helton, Barry Helton, Russell Helton and wife Delene, Harold Helton and wife Gaynell, Danny Helton and wife Rhena and John Helton and wife Elva; four sisters, Carole Strom and husband Bill, Fran La Perriere and husband Darel, Bonnie Ruth Moore and husband Kenneth, Mary Jane Huie and husband Dave; grandchildren, Stephanie Hass and husband Curtis, Blake Helton, Wade Anderson, Cory Anderson and Robert “Bo” Helton; great-granddaughters, Catelyn White, Olivia Anderson and Anslee Hass; brother-in-law, Dewey “Shug” Sutton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 pm, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Jerry Morrow will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blake Helton, Wade Anderson, Cory Anderson, Robert “Bo” Helton, Bill Anderson and Curtis Hass.

Wayne Alvin Sutton: Obituary

Wayne Alvin Sutton, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2018. Born on October 26, 1940, the youngest child of Willard Alvin and Mary Evelyn Sutton in Saint Petersburg, Florida, he grew up in Waycross, Georgia, where he graduated from high school in 1958. He attended Georgia Tech, graduating in electrical engineering.
Wayne’s early life was full of interesting and fulfilling roles, including serving as a combat pilot in Southeast Asia, and engineer designing and constructing heavy industrial plants, a home builder and real estate developer. Wayne’s hobby was restoring World War II, Korean, and Vietnam era military aircraft and flying in airshows and performing aerobatic competitions.
Wayne considered his life to begin at the age of 64 ½ when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in a tent along the Appalachian Trail, where he had journeyed to fast and seek out his Savior. On June 16, 2005 in the early morning hours, Wayne fell on his knees for the first time in his life in acceptance of his Lord. Wayne said, “I felt as if I had wasted sixty-four years of my life and I promised God that I would serve him the remainder of my life.”
In 2007, he enrolled in Liberty University, where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Religion. Wayne went on to receive a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies in 2012, and a Doctor of Ministry in Mission, Evangelism and Church Growth in 2014.
Wayne was accepted in the Pastoral Ministry program of the United Methodist Church in mid-November of 2009, and began his first appointment to Grantville First United Methodist Church in January 2010. Wayne served as Minister of Mission and Evangelism at Brooks United Methodist Church, pastor of Luthersville United Methodist Church, Fayetteville Friendship United Methodist Church and Reid’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was active in the Walk to Emmaus, Chrysalis youth, and Kairos prison ministry.
Wayne’s final request was to be cremated and have his ashes spread over Plumb Orchard Gap on the Appalachian Trail, where he first accepted his Lord.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia Cox Werner Sutton; four children, Wayne Andrew Sutton of Atlanta, Georgia, Diana Lynn Monk of Macon, Georgia, Lisa Ann Thomas of Cumming, Georgia, and Brian Michael Sutton of Peachtree City, Georgia; along with eight grandchildren and 1 coming great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Reid’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Mike Ayers and Fred Kolshorn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12-12:50 Saturday afternoon at the Reid’s Chapel United Methodist Church prior to the services.

Jeanette “Grace” Cutshaw, age 79 of Andrews, NC passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Valley View Care Center in Andrews, NC.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter to the late Grady and Mary McClelland Stiles. Jeanette worked at Owenby’s and Lee’s as a seamstress. She loved going to church. Jeanette was a member of McClelland Cove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Bill and Ray Stiles.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Fulford of Andrews, Hal Fulford Jr. of Elk Hart, IN and Roger Fulford and wife Teresa of Orange Grove Park, FL; one daughter, Melissa Adams and husband Jeff of Salisbury, NC; four sisters, Kay Cantrell of Gastonia, NC, June Beaver of Clover, SC, Shelby Jean Parker and husband Jimmy of Clermont, GA and Dorcas Phillips and husband Steve of Marble, NC; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 pm, Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews, NC. Rev. Steve West will officiate. Burial will be in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Geneva “Jennie” Bateman Mosteller, 89, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 in Asheville, NC. Mrs. Mosteller was born in Macon County on December 13, 1928 to the late Claude Bateman and Elda Neal Bateman. She worked and retired from the textile industry and she was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church. She loved flowers and cats.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Mosteller of Topton, NC, a special niece Tina Bateman Hyleman and great-niece, Brooke Hyleman; two brothers, Morris Bateman and Wendell Bateman both of Topton, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Williamson and six brothers, T. A., Jerry, Johnny, James, Todd and Charles Bateman.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the White Oak Baptist Church, with Rev. S. J. Waters officiating. Burial will be in Aquone Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Waters, Paul Bryant, Doug Bryant, Brian Bateman, Zach Postel and Donald Cross. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Andrews.
